No. 13 Hampden-Sydney Golf Finishes 3rd At Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational | Hunter Martin & Adam Hade Top 10

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. -- No. 13 Hampden-Sydney College posted a final-round score of three-under par 281 on Tuesday for a 54-hole team score of even-par 852 (285-286-281) to finish third among 18 teams at the prestigious Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational played at the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida. Sophomore Hunter Martin/Gloucester Point led the Tigers with his three-under par 71-72-67--210, a new collegiate-best score earning him a Top 10 finish as he tied for seventh individually among the 90 golfers.

Martin posted five birdies and 12 pars during his third-round 67, four-under on the par 71, 6,725-yard layout at the Raven Golf Club at Sandestin. He was followed by senior Adam Hade/Richmond (70-71-70--211, T-9th), senior Bruce Shober/Appomattox (71-70-71--212, T-12th), junior Allen Smith/Durham, N.C. (73-73-73--219, T-39th), along with sophomore John Hatcher Ferguson/Rocky Mount (75-75-80--230, T-79th). Hade also posted a new collegiate-best score for 54 holes, and added four birdies and 11 pars on the final day for the Tigers. Shober, like Martin and Hade, finished with a new collegiate-best score for 54 holes, as well, and had three birdies and 12 pars over the final round. Smith contributed three birdies and 10 pars during round three.

H-SC tied for first among the tournament field in pars (178), was third in par 4 scoring (4.11), tied for fifth in par 5 scoring (4.98), tied for sixth in par 3 scoring (3.04) and tied for ninth in birdies (42). Martin tied for fifth in par 4 scoring (3.93) and birdies (13), and tied for 14th in par 5 scoring (4.83). Hade tied for seventh in pars (38), tied for eighth in par 4 scoring (3.96), and tied for 21st in par 3 scoring (3.00). Shober tied for seventh in pars (38), tied for 14th in par 3 scoring (2.93), and tied for 16th in par 4 scoring (4.04).

The highly-competitive tournament featured 15 of the Top 24 teams nationally, as ranked in the latest Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll. No. 2 Illinois Wesleyan won the event with its 15-under par 837, followed by No. 3 Huntingdon (846), No. 13 H-SC (852), No. 8 Methodist (853), No. 1 Emory (857), Wisconsin-Eau Claire (860), No. 11 St. Thomas (863), No. 15 Southwestern (864) and No. 7 Carnegie Mellon (864), and No. 24 Greensboro (869) among the Top 10. Rob Wuethrich of Illinois Wesleyan was the individual medalist at 12-under 64-68-69--201.

Fellow Old Dominion Athletic Conference member and No. 5 Guilford finished 13th at 875.

H-SC compete again at The O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Tournament on October 28-29 at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
