Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) and rising junior
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) have been named
2024-25 NCAA Division III Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, as announced by the
Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Rubino has earned this outstanding distinction for the second time, while this is the first time for Barnes.
Nick Rubino '25 earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Business, and Religion, graduating with a 3.21 GPA. On the course, he ranked 56th in Division III and 28th in Region IV with his collegiate-low 73.5 scoring average through 10 tournaments and 27 rounds this year. Nick posted collegiate-low scores of 66 for 18 holes and 139 for 36 holes, along with a season-low 211 for 54 holes. He posted a four-over par 72-75-73—220 to win the Cochran Collegiate on April 14-15 at the Colonial Country Club in Cordova, Tennessee near Memphis. Overall, Nick earned four Top 15 among six Top 25 individual finishes with eight rounds of par or better, was named the 2024-25 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Golf Ted Keller Sportsman of the Year and Second Team All-ODAC, and is a two-time member of the ODAC All-Academic Team (2022-23, 2024-25).
Jack Barnes '27 is majoring in Mathematical Economics with a minor in Law and Public Policy, and has attained a 3.31 GPA. On the course, he ranked 174th in Division III and 68th in Region IV with his 75.3 scoring average through the 10 tournaments and 27 rounds this year. Jack posted collegiate-low score of 65 for 18 holes, a season-low score of 143 for 36 holes, along with a collegiate-low 212 for 54 holes. He posted a one-under par 74-72-69—215 to finish fourth at the 2025 ODAC Championships on April 28-30 at the Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. Overall, Jack earned one Top Five among two Top 20 individual finishes with seven rounds of par or better, was named to the 2025 ODAC Championships All-Tournament Team, and is a two-time member of the ODAC All-Academic Team (2023-24, 2024-25).
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
