Box Score WINCHESTER, VA-The Hampden-Sydney baseball team fell 6-4 at Shenandoah in the second game of the ODAC Baseball Tournament, ending the Tigers' season at 17-21 overall and 10-10 in the ODAC regular season. Shenandoah improves to 30-10 on the season while advancing to Lynchburg City Stadium next weekend.
Shenandoah scored two runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Hornets added another run in the third to take an early 3-0 lead.
The Tigers were able to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth as Matthew Spagnolo (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) drove in Devin Daugherty (Norcross, GA/Greater Atlanta Christian) with an RBI-double.
The Hornets scored one run in each the fifth and sixth, however, to push their lead to 5-1.
Hampden-Sydney kept it within striking distance, adding to the scoreboard in the seventh on a Jonathan Triesler (Chesterfield, VA/Clover Hill) run.
Shenandoah responded with a run in the top of the eighth, going up 6-2.
The Tigers were down to their final out in the ninth, and scored two runs as Jayson Maitland (Colonial Heights, VA/Colonial Heights) and Jacob Bartlett (Chesterfield, VA/Matoaca) each scored. The offense then got runners on first and third but could not bring them home with Michael Bugonowicz earning the save.
Offensively, the Tigers had ten hits to Shenandoah's seven. Daugherty and Spagnolo each had two hits.
Nic Graziano (Virginia Beach, VA/First Colonial) allowed three runs on three hits and two walks with a strikeout in three innings; Chase Mayberry (Appomattox, VA/Appomattox) threw 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and five walks while fanning four; and Trey Celata (Chesapeake, VA/Atlantic Shores Christian) allowed a run on two hits in 3.1 innings.
