Box Score ROCKY MOUNT, VA-Ferrum's offense produced two six-run innings while defeating the Tigers 13-2 in non-conference action. The Tigers now drop to 14-16 overall and remain 7-8 in ODAC play. Ferrum improves to 17-23 overall.
Hampden-Sydney started off the game with a run, scoring in the first inning with Jonathan Triesler (Chesterfield, VA/Clover Hill) batting in Brian Goodwyn (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale).
That early lead lasted until the third inning when Ferrum tied the game. The Panthers then used a six run fourth inning to take a 7-1 lead.
Ferrum's offense had another six run inning in the sixth inning, upping its lead to 13-1.
The Tigers were able to score one more run in the eighth, with Triesler batting in his second run of the evening, helping Matt Muehleck (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) cross the plate.
On the mound, Jimmy Butler (Roanoke, VA/Patrick Henry) was the pitcher of decision, allowing seven runs – three earned – on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Trent Jacobs (Farmville, VA/Fuqua), Evan Lester (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale), and Hayden Basse (Fairfax Station, VA/Bishop O'Connell) each threw an inning.
Offensively, the Tigers were limited to four hits; Triesler batted in both runs for the team.
The Tigers will remain on the road and travel to Harrisonburg to face the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University in a double header on Saturday, April 21. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
