HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-The Hampden-Sydney baseball dropped a pair of games against sixth-ranked Roanoke College as the Maroons used 20 runs on the day to win 11-4 and 9-3. The Tigers now stand at 10-9 overall and 4-3 in the ODAC. Roanoke improves to 19-3 and a perfect 10-0 in conference play.

In the first game, Roanoke steadily built a lead early, scoring two runs in the first and one in each the second and third to lead 4-0 through two and a half.

The Tigers were able to cut into that lead, however, in the bottom half of the third as Brian Goodwyn (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale) batted in Jonathan Triesler (Chesterfield, VA/Clover Hill). Goodwyn then scored from second on an RBI-double from Devin Daugherty (Norcross, GA/Greater Atlanta Christian) to make it a 4-2 game.

Roanoke added one more in the top of the fourth, but the Tigers kept it a two run game with Moe Gothe (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale) scoring on an RBI-single from Triesler.

After two scoreless innings, Roanoke extended its lead with one run in the seventh and five in the eighth to go up 11-3.

Tyler Blevins (Draper, VA/Pulaski) crossed the plate in the ninth, but 11-4 would be as close as they would get in game one.

The Tigers had nine hits to Roanoke's 11. Triesler and Ryan Clawson (Moseley, VA/Cosby) each led the way with two hits.

In game two, the Tigers got runners on base early and often but could not score in the first two innings, trailing 2-0 while leaving five runners on base. In the third, however, Clawson hit a two-out single that scored Chase Counts (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) to bring the Tigers within one.

Roanoke pushed the lead up to three with a run in both the fourth and fifth, but Daugherty scored in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI-single from Matthew Spagnolo (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run).

The Maroons then responded, opening the game up in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs to go up 8-2. They then added another insurance run in the top of the eighth.

The Tigers were able to add another run in the ninth with Spagnolo batting in Jayson Maitland (Colonial Heights, VA/Colonial Heights) with an RBI-single.

On the mound, Jimmy Butler (Roanoke, VA/Patrick Henry) allowed six runs on eight hits and a walk with six strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
