Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse outscored Mary Washington 8-3 in the first half en route to a 16-10 win over the Eagles on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Eagle defense kept the Tiger offense in check for much of the first quarter and used a goal at 12:09 to lead 1-0
• However, the H-SC offense got on track just over midway through the quarter when Jared Medwar fed Hunter Brown for the tying goal at 6:23
• Jack Little and Ian Levin would each add on a goal over the next two minutes to give H-SC a 3-1 advantage after a quarter of play
• Levin found the back of the net on a solo tally at 13:57, but UMW's Chris White scored the next two to make it a 4-3 contest with 11:35 left in the half
• The final 12 minutes of the half proved to be all Tigers as Chandler Shaheen scored twice along with a goal apiece from John Burke and Brown to provide H-SC a five-goal advantage, 8-3, at halftime
• The second half proved to be more evenly contested on the scoreboard
• Cole Hogan opened up the third quarter with a goal just 19 seconds in, but H-SC needed only five seconds to respond as Wilson Booth won the faceoff, picked up the ground ball, and fed Levin for H-SC ninth goal of the contest
• The two teams would each score twice the rest of the quarter with tallies coming from Shaheen and Levin for H-SC and White and Kieran Burns for UMW
• Hampden-Sydney posted the first two scores of the fourth quarter, but Mary Washington added on two of their own to keep it a five-goal Tiger leads with 11:48 remaining
• Medwar put away the game with back to back goals at 9:54 and 8:23 then assisted on Tre Williams goal at 8:11 to put the Tigers up 16-8
• Mary Washington would go on to score two more goals, but they came with less than three minutes to play

• Ian Levin scored five goals along with one assist and five ground balls
• Jared Medwar scored four of his five points (2g, 3a) in the fourth quarter and picked up six ground balls
• Hunter Brown contributed two goals and two assists
• Chandler Shaheen scored three times
• Marshall Via collected six ground balls
• Wilson Booth won 12 faceoffs with a game-high eight ground balls
• Mitch Renfrow stopped eight shots with five ground balls

FOR THE FOES

• Chris White scored four times with one assist
• Cole Hogan found the back of the net twice
• Chase Kapuscienski scored once and assisted on another
• Shane McKenzie and Owen Dingman each handed out two assists

• H-SC won the ground ball battle 57-48
• A turnover heavy contest, UMW had 27 giveaways compared to 21 for H-SC
