Seniors Help Tigers Clinch Top-Four Seed for ODAC Tournament

Box Score

A 10-man senior class helped carry Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse to a 15-9 win over Bridgewater College on Saturday evening, and in the process, the Tigers clinched a top-four seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament slated to begin on May 2.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The game was originally scheduled to be played at 5 pm at Lewis C. Everett Stadium, but mother nature had other plans as thunderstorms and darkness forced the game to be moved to 5:45 pm and to Hellmuth-Gibson Field
  • The first quarter was back and forth as the two squads exchanged two goals apiece with just under two minutes left in the quarter, but Chandler Shaheen put H-SC on top at the 1:06 mark
  • Bridgewater evened the game at 3-3 just 28 seconds into the second frame off a Chris Voorhees goal
  • The Eagles took the lead for the first time at 12:34 behind a Daniel Brown score, and they pushed the advantage to 5-3 at 8:25 courtesy of Sean MacLeish's stick
  • The Tigers didn't take long to mount the comeback as Hunter Brown found the back of the net at 7:05 to draw the Tigers within one, and Jake Hargrove tied the game with 4:31 to play in the first half
  • Those two goals kicked off a stretch of eight straight goals for the Tigers. They added two more to end the half to lead 7-5 going into intermission
  • H-SC produced the first four goals of the third quarter, including a score from Robbie Bugbee, to go up 11-5
  • Bridgewater answered back in a big way to end their scoring drought as Blake Mann posted the next two goals and Chris Voorhees made it three in row, cutting the Tiger advantage to 11-8 with 3:04 left in the frame
  • Duncan Morris ended the quick spurt from the Eagles, tallying a man-up goal with a minute left in the third to put H-SC ahead by four, 12-8, after 45 minutes of play
  • Bridgewater never managed to trim their deficit to less than four in the fourth quarter as the Tigers outscored them 3-1 in the quarter
