Lacrosse Wins Battle of Apex Predators 13-8

Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse defeated the Ohio Northern Polar Bears 13-8 on Saturday afternoon

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sloppy play plagued the first quarter as teams combined for 17 turnovers and just nine shots, but a Chandler Shaheen goal at 4:54 gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead after 15 minutes
  • Both teams started finding some traction in the second quarter and Hunter Brown, Jack Hayden, and John Burke scored three straight to put the Tigers ahead 4-1
  • ONU drew within one with 4:13 left in the half following scores from Patrick Moran and Max Weese
  • Brown scored just 16 seconds later and Shaheen followed at 2:22 to push the advantage back to three
  • Brown closed out the half finding the back of the net with 22 seconds to play
  • The Tigers picked back up right where they left off in the second quarter as they scored four straight, capped off by Ian Levin getting one past the goalkeeper off a pass from Jared Arntzen
  • The Polar Bears caught fire late in the third and scored the next five goals of the game to trail just 11-8 with 6:16 left in the game
  • Hayden ended the run with a score at 4:07, and Shaheen put away any hopes of a Polar Bear comeback with his fourth strike of the game at 1:42

  • Chandler Shaheen registered four goals and an assist
  • Hunter Brown added three scores and one helper
  • Jack Hayden notched two goals
  • Ian Levin scored once and assisted on two more
  • Connor Pool contributed a goal and an assist
  • Wilson Booth went 9-13 on face-offs

  • Patrick Moran scored four times
  • Max Weese tacked on two goals and an assist
  • Samuel Neff posted a goal and an assist
  • Chris DiMarco won 10 of his 19 face-off attempts
  • Alex Pizarro made nine saves in net after being subbed in for the second half

  • H-SC outshot ONU 37-20
  • The Tigers went 14-25 on face-offs
  • Hampden-Sydney held a 36-26 advantage in ground balls
