Guilford Wins Nailbiter 5-4

Guilford College won a 5-4 nailbiter against Hampden-Sydney Tennis on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Matthew Moody and Michael Moody extended their undefeated streak to nine with an 8-5 win at the #1 doubles flight, but the Quakers would take the #2 and #3 matches 8-4 to lead 2-1
  • Guilford extended their lead to 3-1 with a straight set win at #3, but Levy Young got the Tigers within one with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the #5 flight
  • Graham Pearson put Guilford ahead 4-2 with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the #6 spot
  • Michael Moody made it 4-3 with a 6-4, 6-1 "W" at #2, and then Matthew Moody tied it at 4-4 by defeating Tate Godwin 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) at the top flight
  • A few minutes later, Jon-Anthony Thomas clinched the match victory for Guilford by a score of 6-2, 7-5 at #4
