Lacrosse Takes the Sting Out of the Yellow Jackets, Win 12-9

Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse picked up an ODAC win on Saturday afternoon with a 12-9 defeat of Randolph-Macon.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers struck first with a Hunter Brown man-up goal off a pass from Jack Doetzer put the Yellow Jackets would go on to score the remaining two goals of the quarter to lead 2-1
  • Connor Pool posted the tie-maker, courtesy of a Brown assist, just 42 seconds into the second quarter, and Ian Levin would finish off a John Burke pass at 13:02 to put the Tigers ahead 3-2
  • Sam Mayer drew R-MC even at 10:57, but goals from Pool and Duncan Morris, each assisted by Doetzer, gave H-SC a two-goal cushion with 7:14 remaining in the half
  • Randolph-Macon's Alex Camilliere and Miles Muncie would post the next two scores to make it a 5-5 game at intermission
  • H-SC came out guns ablazin' in the third quarter as consecutive Chandler Shaheen goals and a score from Levin put H-SC up 8-5 at 11:15
  • David Cryster scored just 10 seconds later, and Camilliere put the Yellow Jackets down just one, 8-7, at the 10:08 mark
  • The Tigers would go on to score three of the remaining four goals in the quarter, including the last with just four seconds left when Morris found Pool wide open on the crease
  • Luc Cassier converted a Jack Hayden feed into a goal at 9:20 for the Tigers last goal of the game, and H-SC dominated time of possession the rest of the way, but R-MC's Lee Pratt managed to put one in the back of the net at 3:51

  • Jared Arntzen dominated on face-offs all game long, winning 17 of 24 while scooping 13 ground balls
  • Jack Doetzer posted a team-high four points, all on assists
  • Chandler Shaheen notched a hat trick
  • Connor Pool, Hunter Brown, and Ian Levin each scored twice with an assist while Brown contributed three caused turnovers
  • Duncan Morris found the back of the net twice
  • John Burke assisted on two tallies

FOR THE FOES

  • Brian Davies recorded 3 saves
  • Sam Mayer had a team-high three points on a goal and two assists
  • Miles Muncie and Alex Camilliere each posted two scores
  • Kyle Keepers added a goal and an assist

  • H-SC outshot R-MC 43-17 with a 25-14 advantage in shots on goal
  • Hampden-Sydney held a 34-20 advantage in ground balls
