Lacrosse Opens Season With 13-9 Win

Hampden-Sydney lacrosse brushed off a rusty start in the first quarter to defeat Mary Washington 13-9 and earn Head Coach Jason Rostan his first career win.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers surrendered the first three goals of the game through eight minutes of play as turnovers and a hot goalkeeper kept the Tigers at bay
  • H-SC didn't find the back of the net until Duncan Morris notched an unassisted tally with 13 seconds left in the first quarter
  • Hampden-Sydney used the momentum from the late score to post three of the first four goals in the second frame to tie the game at 4-4 with 9:24 left in the half
  • Drew Carlson scored just over a minute later to put the Eagles back up one, but a Chandler Shaheen goal at 7:07 drew the Tigers back to even and Hunter Brown pocketed a man-up tally at 3:35 to give the Tigers a one-goal halftime lead
  • The Tigers continued to their roll into the third quarter with Connor Pool, Jack Doetzer, and Hunter Brown found the back of the net to put the Tigers up 9-5 with five minutes left in the third quarter.
  • Mike Marson ended the 23-minute scoring drought for the Eagles with just under five seconds left in the third
  • The Eagles managed to net three goals in the fourth quarter but never got their deficit to below three scores.
