Baseball Drops 2-1 Decision at Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, VA-The Hampden-Sydney Tigers were held to just one run on two hits in a 2-1 loss to Lynchburg in 11 innings on Wednesday afternoon. Hampden-Sydney now stands at 21-13 overall and 7-8 in the ODAC; Lynchburg improves to 8-23 on the season and 4-11 in conference.

Hampden-Sydney had strong performances on the mound, with Eric O'Brien (Richmond, VA/Douglas Freeman) allowing one run on six hits with four strikeouts in seven innings, Dylan Gonzales (Richmond, VA/J.R. Tucker) throwing three shutout innings with four strikeouts and only two hits allowed, and Zach Perkins (Appomattox, VA/Appomattox) allowing one run on two hits with a strikeout in two-thirds of an inning.

Lynchburg was the first to score with a run in the sixth, but the Tigers tied the game in the eighth when Jacob Fontana (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) hit an RBI-single to score John Lloyd (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run).

Neither team would score again, until Lynchburg had a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 11th to take the win.

Hampden-Sydney will return to action Saturday, April 16 in Greensboro with a double header against Guilford. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
