Tigers Drop 4-1 Decision to Covenant

Box Score

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, GA-Hampden-Sydney fell 4-1 to Covenant on Monday afternoon, falling to 9-6 on the year while remaining at 1-1 in the ODAC. The Tigers will remain south, heading to Sewanee to face the Tigers tomorrow afternoon for a 2:00 PM game.

Covenant took the first lead of the game, scoring a run in the first inning and then led throughout. Another run in the second put the Scots up 2-0.

The Tigers cut into that lead in the top of the third as a Reggie Johnson (Dunnsville, VA/Essex) single scored Moe Gothe (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale).

That score, however, would be the only one for the Tigers on the day while Covenant would tack on two more in the sixth.

Hampden-Sydney had seven hits to Covenant's ten. Brian Goodwyn (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale) went 3-for-5 from the plate while Johnson tallied two hits.

On the mound, Eric O'Brien (Richmond, VA/Douglas Freeman) was the pitcher of decision, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings. Matt Hinson (Kinston, NC/Arendell Parrott Academy) allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts in an inning, and Josh Blair (Virginia Beach, VA/Princess Anne) and Aaron Kurz (Richmond, VA/James River) each pitched a shutout inning.

The Tigers will face Sewanee at Sewanee Tuesday, March 8 at 2:00 PM.
