Box Score HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-The Hampden-Sydney Tigers picked up their second win in as many days, shutting out the fifth-ranked Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets 3-0. With the win, the Tigers improve to 18-10 on the season and 4-5 in ODAC play, while the Jackets fall to 18-4-1 overall and 6-4 in conference.
Hampden-Sydney had seven hits to Randolph-Macon's six, while the Tiger defense was able to strand ten base runners for the Jackets. Eric O'Brien (Richmond, VA/Douglas Freeman), Teddy West (Lanexa, VA/Warhill), and Dylan Gonzales (Richmond, VA/J.R. Tucker) combined for the shutout.
The Tigers first got on the board in the second, using passed balls to advance runners and set up a Jacob Fontana (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) RBI-single that scored John Lloyd (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run). Jack Elliott (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) then hit a sacrifice fly to score Tyler Blevins (Draper, VA/Pulaski).
Pitching and defense held each team off the board over the next three innings, but the Tigers broke the drought with Lloyd scoring his second run of the day, this one on a Blevins RBI-double.
Each team would get runners on base over the ensuing two and a half innings, but neither team could cross the plate.
Lloyd and Cody Smith (Bristol, VA/Virginia HS) led the offense with two hits each.
Hampden-Sydney will hit the road to face Eastern Mennonite for a double header on Saturday, April 2. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
