THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hampden-Sydney 7, Mary Washington 5
  • Records: Hampden-Sydney 1-1; Mary Washington 0-1
  • Location: Fredericksburg, VA

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first quarter proved to be all about defense for both teams with nine saves and only one goal coming at the hands of UMW's Noah Dewey just 1:03 into the contest
  • The Tiger offense took control of the game in the second quarter with four goals while allowing none
  • Duncan Morris (Charlottesville, VA / Christchurch) tied the game at 9:25 then gave H-SC the lead at 6:06 on another unassisted tally
  • Hunter Brown (Charlottesville, VA / Albemarle) finished off a Connor Pool (Charlotte, NC / Charlotte Catholic) pass at 5:19, then two minutes later Jake Koferl (Huntersville, NC / Lake Norman) made it a 4-1 game
  • Mary Washington responded big coming out of intermission as they scored three consecutive goals with the last coming at 7:43 to tie the game at 4-4
  • H-SC answered with the next two goals as Ian Levin (Chapel Hill, NC / East Chapel Hill) assisted Morris at 6:35 and Koferl at 2:11.
  • Miles Davis drew the Eagles within one, 6-5, with 46 ticks left in the third quarter, and the Eagles looked to have scored a game-tying goal with just a few seconds left in the quarter after a Tiger turnover, but the goal was eventually waived off due to Mary Washington having too many players on the field.
  • The Hampden-Sydney defense regrouped in the fourth quarter and stepped up big, holding the Eagles scoreless in the final frame while Koferl notched hi third goal of the game at the 10:56 mark
