Baseball Falls 3-2 at Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, VA-The Hampden-Sydney baseball team fell 3-2 at Lynchburg in ODAC action on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers took an early 2-0 lead, but the Hornets managed to tie the game and later take a lead they would not relinquish. The Tigers now stand at 10-20-1 overall and 7-11 in ODAC play; Lynchburg improves to 13-18 and 8-8 in conference.

Hampden-Sydney got on the board first, using five hits to score two two-out runs in the second. Garrett Birnbaum (Moseley, VA/Cosby) drove in Lee Carneal (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) and Jackson Rogers (Sterling, VA/Potomac Falls) batted in Birnbaum.

Lynchburg matched those runs in the bottom of the second and then added one more in the third.

The Tigers managed six more hits and Lynchburg added five, but both pitching prevailed as Spencer Garrett (Atlanta, GA/Whitefield Academy) and Reggie Johnson (Dunnsville, VA/Essex) combined to pitch five shutout innings for the Tigers, and Charlie Thieringer and Brandon Miller kept Lynchburg's lead.

Christian Hamlett (Midlothian, VA/Cosby), Cody Mann (Powhatan, VA/Powhatan), and Carneal all had two hits.

Hampden-Sydney wraps up the regular season on Saturday, April 18 as the Tigers travel to Washington & Lee for a double header. First pitch is slated for 12:00 PM.
