Baseball Drops Two to Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, VA-The Hampden-Sydney baseball team dropped two games to Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon at BC Baseball Field. The Eagles took decisions of 9-8 and 13-1. Hampden-Sydney now stands at 10-19-1 overall and 7-10 in ODAC play, and Bridgewater improves to 21-9-1 on the season and 10-6 in conference play.

Game one was back and forth with both teams having big innings in the fourth and fifth. Hampden-Sydney started the scoring off in the fourth, using a two-RBI double from Reggie Johnson (Dunnsville, VA/Essex) and one RBI each from Lee Carneal (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) and Ryan Haynie (Melfa, VA/Nandua) to go up 4-0.

The Eagles knocked in three of their own in the bottom of the frame to keep the game close.

The scoring carried over as Jack Elliott (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) hit a three-run homerun to go up 7-3.

Just as the inning before, however, Bridgewater scored three of its own, making it 7-6.

John Lloyd (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) added to the lead by crossing the plate in the seventh, but Bridgewater struck again in the bottom of the eighth.

An inning later, Bridgewater knocked in two in the bottom of the ninth to comeback for the win.

The Tigers had 12 hits to Bridgewater's 16. Johnson and Spencer Wiles (Belmont, NC/South Point) each had three hits. Carneal and Lloyd both had two.

In game two, Bridgewater did much of its damage in the fifth, scoring ten of its 13 runs in the inning.

The Tigers did cross the plate in the eighth with Carneal batting in Christian Hamlett (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) on a single.

The Tigers tallied six hits compared to Bridgewater's nine and were hampered by five errors.

Hampden-Sydney returns to action Tuesday, April 14 as the Tigers travel to face Lynchburg College at 3:00 PM.
