Tigers Shut Down Randolph-Macon 11-5

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse held the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets to one or fewer goals in three of four quarters in a 11-5 win on Saturday afternoon.

  • H-SC led 2-0 at the end of the first and 5-1 at halftime as Jake Koferl (Huntersville, NC / Lake Norman) scored with only five seconds left in the second quarter
  • R-MC scored three goals in the third frame but H-SC answered with four

  • David Noftsinger (Richmond, VA / Collegiate School) made nine saves between the pipes for the win
  • Mike Funk (Chantilly, VA / Middleburg) posted a game-high four points on a goal and three assists
  • Thomas Armstrong (Charlotte, NC / Charlotte Latin) contributed a hat trick
  • James Hughes (Apex, NC / Middle Creek) tallied two goals and an assist
  • Jake Koferl added on two scores

FOR THE FOES

  • Brian Davies took the loss in net but made 15 stops
  • Five different players scored goals while three added assists 

STATS OF THE GAME

  • Nick Benhoff came into the game winning 56% of his face-offs, but the Tigers dominated on face-offs, winning 14-of-18 with Dontae Buck accounting for 17 of those attempts
  • H-SC recorded just 11 turnovers, tied for its lowest total of the season
  • 26 of H-SC's 35 shots were on goal as compared to just 14 out of 32 for R-MC
