Lacrosse Rolls to a 15-3 Victory Over Greensboro

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse used an eight-goal first quarter to roll to a 15-3 win over Greensboro College on Wednesday night. The Tigers are now 6-4 and have won three straight games.

James Hughes (Apex, NC / Middle Creek) recorded a first-quarter hat trick to highlight the opening stanza which saw the Tigers score the first seven goals as they went into the second quarter up 8-1. Neither team managed a goal in the second quarter as it remained 8-1 at the half.

Ian Levin (Chapel Hill, NC / East Chapel Hill), Duncan Morris (Charlottesville, VA / Christchurch), Abbot Wallenborn (Crozet, VA / Western Albemarle), and Hughes posted the Tigers four goals in the third frame while Drew Farrell and Blaine Wise tacked on scores to provide H-SC with a 12-3 lead after three. Connor Pool (Charlotte, NC / Charlotte Catholic) scored his first two career goal in the fourth quarter while Robbie Bugbee (Greensboro, NC / Page) posted one tally.

Hughes paced the Tigers with four goals, and Morris also had four points on three goals and an assist. Thomas Armstrong (Charlotte, NC / Charlotte Latin) and Wallenborn each contributed a goal and two assists. In addition to his two goals, Pool collected a team-high five ground balls. A trio of Tigers dominated on face-offs as Dontae Buck (Baltimore, MD / Baltimore City College) won seven of his eight attempts, Jared Arntzen (Atlanta, GA / Blue Ridge) went 5-for-7, and Wilson Booth (Cary, NC / Green Hope) was 4-for-6. David Noftsinger (Richmond, VA / Collegiate School) posted three saves for the win, and Connor Hinson (New Albany, OH / New Albany) notched six saves in 31 minutes of relief. 

Farrell led the Pride offense with two goals, Wise added a goal, and Gianni Gonzalez an assist. Cody Cunningham made 11 saves. 

Hampden-Sydney scooped 51 ground balls compared to 28 for Greensboro. The Tigers won 16-of-21 face-offs and outshot the Pride 43-26.

Hampden-Sydney hosts Randolph College on Saturday at 1 pm at Lewis C. Everett Stadium.
