Tigers Down #10 RMC 12-6, Lloyd 5-for-5

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-The Hampden-Sydney bats were hot as the Tigers downed #10 Randolph-Macon 12-6 on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers knocked 15 hits, including three doubles, one triple, and three homeruns in the effort. John Lloyd (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) was a perfect 5-for-5 with a homerun, two doubles, two RBI and four runs. The Tigers, winners of three straight, improve to 9-15-1 on the season and 6-6 in ODAC play. The Jackets drop to 16-4 and 8-4 in conference.

The two teams battled closely through the first three innings, knotted at 1-1, but Hampden-Sydney exploded in the fourth to the tune of five runs on six hits, including a solo homerun from Lee Carneal (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle), an RBI-triple from Dustin Wiles (Belmont, NC/South Point), and a double from Christian Hamlett (Midlothian, VA/Cosby).

The Tigers added two more in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-1 lead after a costly Yellow Jacket error allowed Jack Elliott (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and Carneal to cross the plate.

The Hampden-Sydney bats were still hot in the sixth, adding three more runs with back-to-back homers from Lloyd and Spencer Wiles (Belmont, NC/South Point) upping the lead to 11-1.

Randolph-Macon gained some life in the top of the eighth, getting three across the plate, but the Tigers came right back in the bottom of the fame with Lloyd scoring on a Jeff Gray (Newport News, VA/Menchville) RBI.

The Jackets continued their late surge in the ninth, with Nick Maiolo hitting a two run homerun. Jackson Rogers (Sterling, VA/Potomac Falls) put an end to the game, closing out the side. Rogers pitched two innings, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Zach Whitaker (Roanoke, VA/Patrick Henry) picked up the win, going seven strong, allowing just one run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Spencer Wiles and Carneal each had three hits a homerun, two RBI, and a combined three runs scored.

Hampden-Sydney remains at home and will host Guilford College on Saturday, April 4 for a double header. First pitch is slated for 12:00 pm.
