Lacrosse Rolls to 19-7 Victory vs. Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, VA – Hampden-Sydney scored 14 consecutive goals to defeat Shenandoah University 19-7 on Saturday afternoon to open ODAC play. H-SC is now 3-3, 1-0 while Shenandoah is 4-3, 0-1.

James Hughes (Apex, NC / Middle Creek) opened the scoring at 10:26, but Shenandoah's Kyle Savage tied the game at the 7:41 mark. Dontae Buck (Baltimore, MD / Baltimore City College) won the ensuing face-off, picked up the ground ball, and then scored just 13 seconds later, the first of 14 straight goals for Hampden-Sydney. H-SC would go on to lead 4-1 after the first, 11-1 at halftime, and 15-2 after three quarters.

Buck won 19-of-20 face-offs with 11 ground balls, a goal, and an assist. Hughes tallied three goals, all coming in the first quarter, along with two assists. Thomas Armstrong (Charlotte, NC / Charlotte Latin), Duncan Morris (Charlottesville, VA / Christchurch), Mike Funk (Chantilly, VA / Middleburg), and John Burke (Richmond, VA / St. Christopher's) each posted two goals while Hunter Brown (Charlottesville, VA / Albemarle) had a goal and an assist with two caused turnovers and five ground balls. Wilson Booth (Cary, NC / Green Hope) also went 6-for-10 on face-offs.

Aaron Paul, Savage, and Stephen Latona scored twice apiece for Shenandoah while Tilghman Sanders had three assists. Ben Judy made 18 saves.

H-SC dominated in the team stats, taking advantages in ground balls (51-19), turnovers forced (19-16), face-offs (win 25-of-30), and shots (51-27).

Hampden-Sydney travels to Roanoke College on Saturday for a 2 pm face-off time.
