LYNCHBURG, VA – Hampden-Sydney Tennis earned an 8-1 win at Randolph College on Tuesday.
J.B. Weaver (Raleigh, NC / Needham Broughton) and Fitzhugh Johnson (Fredericksburg, VA / James Monroe) won 8-5 at the #1 doubles flight, and Thacher Jennings (Lynchburg, VA / E.C. Glass) and David Dodson (Roanoke, VA / Cave Spring) earned an 8-3 victory at the #2 spot. Trent Singleton (Richmond, VA / Douglas S. Freeman) and Pete Dooley (Glen Allen, VA / Deep Run) rolled 8-2 at #3.
Weaver dropped his first set at #1 singles 4-6 but rebounded to win the next two 6-0 and 10-7. Johnson won the first set 6-2 at the #2 flight but lost the next two 3-6, 7-6 (7-2). Jennings posted an impressive 6-0, 6-2 #3 win, and Dodson also posted a strong win 6-2, 6-2 at the #5 spot. Singleton earned a hard fought 7-5 first-set win but took care of business 6-0 in the next set at the #4 flight. Dooley was victorious 6-2, 6-4 at #6 singles.
The Tigers host Randolph-Macon on Thursday at 3 pm.
