Box Score ASHLAND, VA-The Hampden-Sydney Tigers fell 4-3 at Randolph-Macon in a close fought game. Junior Christian Hamlett (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) extended his school-record hit streak to 25 with a 2-for-5 day at the plate. Hampden-Sydney now drops to 21-9 overall and 5-6 in the ODAC. Randolph-Macon improves to 13-9 overall and 8-3 in conference.
Spencer Wiles (Belmont, NC/South Point) wasted no time getting the Tigers on the scoreboard, leading off the game with a homerun.
Randolph-Macon, however, responded with a run in the bottom of the frame with Nate Meiners driving in Travis Lodge.
The Tigers reclaimed the lead in the third as a Jeff Gray (Newport News, VA/Menchville) hit a double that scored Hunter Lewis (Newport News, VA/Menchville).
Just as they did before, the Yellow Jackets responded soon after with two runs in fourth to take a 3-2 lead.
After Teddy West (Lanexa, VA/Warhill) and Jamie Hendrick combined to pitch three scoreless innings, the Tigers struck in the eighth and tied the game on a Dustin Wiles (Belmont, NC/South Point) score.
The Jackets fired right back with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame, and after Nicholas Maiolo used a sacrifice fly to score Meiners, Randolph-Macon held a 4-3 lead.
Glenn McLaughlin took the mound and preserved the lead, picking up the save in the ninth.
Hampden-Sydney recorded ten hits to Randolph-Macon's seven. Lewis led the way, going 3-for-4 with a run scored.
West went seven strong innings, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Matt Hinson (Kinston, NC/Arendell Parrott Academy) pitched one innings, allowing one run on one hit.
Hampden-Sydney returns to action this Saturday, as the Tigers host Bridgewater in a double header beginning at 12:00 pm.
