HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Hampden-Sydney Tennis lost 8-1 to Washington & Lee on Saturday but handed the Generals #1 doubles team it's only loss in the ODAC.
Thacher Jennings (Lynchburg, VA / E.C. Glass) filled in on the #1 doubles team for the first time this year as he teamed with J.B. Weaver (Raleigh, NC / Needham Broughton). Jennings promotion to the #1 team proved to pay dividends as the Tigers took a thrilling win 9-8 (7-6) over Michael Holt and Taylor Shamshiri. Holt and Shamshiri were 15-3 overall and 7-0 in the ODAC coming in to the match.
Lawrence Bowers (New Bern, NC / Arendell Parrott Academy) lost a tough match at #5 singles. After dropping the first set 7-5, he came back to win the second set 6-3, but he ended up losing the tiebreaker 10-2. David Dodson (Roanoke, VA / Cave Spring) narrowly lost at the #6 singles flight 6-4, 6-4.
The Tigers will participate in the ODAC Tournament next weekend. Opponent and location are to be determined.
