ROANOKE, VA – The Hampden-Sydney Tennis team traveled to Roanoke, VA to beat Emory & Henry 7-2 in a match played at Hollins University.
The Tigers convincingly swept all three doubles matchups. J.B. Weaver (Raleigh, NC / Needham Broughton) and Fitzhugh Johnson (Fredericksburg, VA / James Monroe) took the #1 matchup 8-1, Zack King (Henrico, VA / Mills Godwin) and Trent Singleton (Richmond, VA / Douglas S. Freeman) scored an 8-2 win at the #2 flight, and Thacher Jennings (Lynchburg, VA / E.C. Glass) and Mitchell Swann (Lynchburg, VA / E.C. Glass) earned the win at the #3 spot 8-3.
The Wasps got the better part of the Tigers in the #1 and #2 singles flights, but Hampden-Sydney won matches 3-6. King won 6-1, 6-2 at #3 while Jennings recorded a rare clean sweep at 6-0, 6-0 at #4. Singleton took an impressive 6-1, 6-1 victory at #5, and Lawrence Bowers (New Bern, NC / Arendell Parrott Academy) earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at #6.
Hampden-Sydney travels to Randolph College on Tuesday for a 3 pm match.
