Tigers' ODAC Run Ends With 2-1 Loss to R-MC

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA-Second-seeded Hampden-Sydney turned around one hour after a thrilling 6-5 win over fourth-seeded Washington & Lee in extra innings to face a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to fifth-seeded Randolph-Macon in game nine of the 2013 ODAC Baseball Tournament. The Tigers finish the Tournament with a 2-2 record and an overall record of 23-17-1. Randolph-Macon advances to the championship round to face top-seeded Bridgewater.

Runs and hits were nearly impossible to come by in the pitcher's duel with the game deadlocked at 0-0 heading into the ninth. Back-to-back triples from Randolph-Macon followed by a sacrifice fly put the visitors up 2-0.

Hampden-Sydney responded as Beau Flinchum (Ashland, VA/Hanover) led off the innings with a double. Two outs later, James Keller (Fredericksburg, VA/VMI) advanced the senior shortstop to third with a two-strike single. After an errant throw to catch the runner stealing, Flinchum scored from third to put the Tigers within one.

Randolph-Macon's Will Jennings, however, struck out the final batter to secure the win for the Jackets.

Sophomore Billy Nixon (Sedley, VA/Southampton) was solid for the Tigers in his first start of the year. The righty threw 6.1 scoreless innings while allowing just three hits. Aaron Stidham (Roanoke, VA/William Byrd) pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits.

Randolph-Macon's Daniel Byrd picked up the win after allowing one unearned run on eight hits in eight innings.

Hampden-Sydney finished the year 23-17-1 with a second place ODAC finish at 13-7 overall.
