HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - The five Hampden-Sydney tennis Tigers all won their matches en route to a 9-0 win over Lynchburg College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Tuesday afternoon. Prior to the match, Rich Pugh (Augusta, GA/Lakeside), Shad Harrell (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin),Tal Covington (Gainesville, VA/Flint Hill), Zack Pack (Keysville, VA/Randolph-Henry), and Matt MacFarland (Lynchburg, VA/heritage) were recognized for their hard work and dedication to the tennis program over their four-year career.
Pugh and Covington teamed together at #1 doubles while Pack and Ian Sammler (Prince George, VA/Prince George) were paired at #3 doubles as each team won their matches 8-0. Harrell and Kevin Calhoun (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin)won 8-2 at the #2 doubles.
Pugh continued to establish himself as the top singles player in the ODAC as he took down Brandon Brown 6-0, 6-1. Harrell earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at #2 singles while Calhoun dispatched of Jim Rochow 6-2, 6-1 at the #3 spot. Covington was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at #4 singles with Pack taking #5 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-0. MacFarland played in his first singles match this spring, defeating Jonathan Jordan 6-1, 6-1 at the sixth spot.
The Tigers will travel to Sweet Briar, VA, on Saturday for a 1 p.m. neutral site contest against Emory & Henry College.
