Pullen, Tigers Earn 9-0 Win Over Ferrum

FERRUM, VA-Freshman righty Kyle Pullen (Severn, MD/Calvary Baptist) allowed just six hits while striking out seven in his six scoreless innings of work en route to the 9-0 victory for Hampden-Sydney. With the win, Hampden-Sydney improves to 14-12 while Ferrum falls to 11-13.

Neither offense started out effectively with a scoreless tie after two innings. The Tiger bats came alive in the third, exploding for six runs. After the first three batters were walked, sophomore Patrick Kuhns (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) unloaded the bases with a three-RBI double. Zach Harrelson (Danville, VA/George Washington) later batted in Kuhns, and then Harrelson, along with Hunter Lewis (Newport News, VA/Menchville), crossed the plate on a two-RBI triple to go up 6-0.

Hampden-Sydney added one more run in the seventh Lewis batted in his fourth run, scoring Beau Flinchum (Ashland, VA/Hanover) taking a commanding 7-0 lead.

Freshman Aaron Stidham (Roanoke, VA/William Byrd) then took the mound and allowed just one hit over the next two innings.

Meanwhile, Hampden-Sydney continued to extend its lead in the eighth. Luke Feldenzer (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) led off the inning with a walk and advanced to third when Jordan Wind (Tappahannock, VA/Essex)hit a single. Kuhns scored Feldenzer on a sacrifice fly, and then Nick Caporale (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) pushed the lead to 9-0 batting in Wind. 

Aaron Van Allen (Danville, VA/Tunstall) came to the mound in the bottom of ninth to preserve the shutout.

Flinchum led the team with two hits, while Kuhns had a game-high four RBI. Wind and Feldenzer each scored two runs.

Hampden-Sydney returns to action on Saturday, March 26 as it travels to face Washington & Lee in an ODAC double header. The first game is scheduled to start at noon.
