Tennis Overpowers Randolph in Season Opening Match

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA -The Hampden-Sydney Tigers tennis squad got the season off on the right foot and overpowered fellow ODAC school Randolph College in a decisive 9-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon.

H-SC won in straight sets in each match and Randolph was not able to muster more than one game in a single set. The doubles duos of #1 Rich Pugh (Augusta, GA/Lakeside)/Tal Covington (Gainesville, VA/Flint Hill) and #2 Shad Harrell (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin)/Kevin Calhoun (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) won their matches 8-0 while the #3 tag team of Zack Pack (Keysville, VA/Randolph-Henry)/Ian Sammler (Prince George, VA/Prince George) won 8-1.

Pack, playing #3 singles, was the lone Tiger to not surrender a game in sinples play and he dispatched of Ben See 6-0, 6-0 while Calhoun won 6-1, 6-0 playing in the #1 slot. Sammler, Ryan Davis (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring), and Barrett Polan (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) went 6-0, 6-1 in 4-6 singles, respectively. Covington defeated Jason Corsbie 6-1, 6-1 at #2 singles.

The Tigers host Ferrum College in two weeks on Wednesday, March 16 at 3:30 pm.
