LYNCHBURG, VA (February 23, 2008)– The Hampden-Sydney College tennis team opened the 2008 tennis season with an impressive 9-0 victory over Randolph College in the ODAC opener for both schools. With the victory, Hampden-Sydney improved to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, while Randolph fell to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the league.
The Tigers appeared focused in their first match of the year, winning five of the six singles matches at 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Rich Pugh (Augusta, GA/Lakeside) won at No. 1 singles, defeating Randolph's Kyle Schneck 6-0, 6-0.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, February 29 as the Tigers travel to Greensboro, NC to take on Greensboro College at 1:00 pm.
