HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (April 18, 2007)–Hampden-Sydney's tennis team opened the 2007 ODAC tennis tournament with an impressive victory on Wednesday as the Tigers scored a 6-3 victory over Bridgewater College. The Tigers swept all three doubles matches and scored another solid victory in #6 singles to secure the win. With the victory, the Tigers improve to 10-5 on the season and advance to the ODAC semifinals, while the Eagles will end their season at 8-7 overall.
Freshman William Moss (Fredericksburg, VA/Fredericksburg) improved to 12-1 overall in #1 singles as he scored a 6-0, 6-0 victory over the Eagles' Brian Remsch. Also scoring victories in singles competition were James Labrot (Savannah, GA/Savannah Country Day) andBruce Meyer (Richmond, VA/Monacan). Meyer earned a solid victory after falling behind early.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, April 21, as Hampden-Sydney advances to the ODAC semifinals to face #1 seeded Washington and Lee University. The match will be in Salem, VA on the campus of Roanoke College, but the time has not yet been determined.
