HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (March 19, 2007)– After nearly two weeks off, the Hampden-Sydney College tennis team won its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference match of the season against Lynchburg College on Monday. The Tigers defeated the short-handed Hornets by a score of 8-1. With the victory, Hampden-Sydney improves to 2-2 (1-1 ODAC) on the season, while Lynchburg drops to 1-9 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Hampden-Sydney's George Aloupas (Newport News, VA/Menchville), Langdon Moss (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's), and Doug Stumborg (Virginia Beach, VA/First Colonial) earned their first victories of the season in singles. Richie Holzapfel (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti) won in both #1 singles and doubles.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, March 20 as the Tigers will travel to Roanoke, VA to face ODAC-foe Emory and Henry College. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm.
