HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (March 1, 2007)– The Hampden-Sydney College tennis team fought hard, but it was not enough as the Tigers fell to Division I Longwood University, 0-9. With the loss, Hampden-Sydney drops to 1-1 on the season, while Longwood improves to 2-1 overall.
Longwood overpowered the Tigers as they won five of the singles matches in straight sets. Freshman William Moss (Fredericksburg, VA/Fredericksburg) took Longwood's David Cardoso to a third set in #1 singles. Cardoso finally proved to be too much as Moss fell 3-6, 6-4, 4-10. Longwood swept the Tigers in doubles action as well.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, March 7 as the Tigers will travel to Lexington, VA to play ODAC preseason favorite, Washington and Lee. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
