ODAC Football Report: Week 3

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College senior running back Terry Hicks (Clayton, NC) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Offensive Player of the Week, and sophomore running back/kick return specialist Will Foley (Virginia Beach) has been named the ODAC Special Teams Player of the Week, for games played September 19. Hicks was selected for his school-record 317 yards rushing during a 43-41 non-conference road win at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, while Foley was chosen for his 153 yards in kick returns against the Nor'easters.

Terry Hicks rushed for his career-high and school-record 317 yards on a career-high 36 attempts (8.8) and one touchdown, and had 12 runs of 10 or more yards, including two 30-plus yard runs. It's the highest single-game rushing total in Division III this season, and the second-highest total in all NCAA Divisions this season, while the third-highest single-game total in ODAC history. Through three games, he has 528 rushing yards on 75 attempts (7.0) and one touchdown, and leads the ODAC in rushing yards, rushing yards per game (176.0), all-purpose yards (550) and all-purpose yards per game (183.3), while fifth in total offense (528) and total offense per game (176.0). Hicks ranks third in Division III rushing yards, fourth in rushing yards per game, and eighth in all-purpose yards and all-purpose yards per game.

Terry now totals 2,484 career rushing yards on 448 career attempts (5.5) and 26 career touchdowns in 29 career games, and ranks eighth all-time in career rushing yards and 10th in career touchdowns. Jimmy Ferguson '79 owned the previous single-game record at the College for the past 49 years with his 226 yards rushing against Liberty Baptist in 1977 in a game that was played in Danville. Grayson Overstreet of Emory & Henry has the ODAC single-game record of 324 yards against Ferrum in 2019. Cephus Harris of Division II Davenport (MI) has the NCAA's top single-game effort this season with his 351 yards against Gannon (PA) on August 29.

Will Foley had 153 yards on five kick returns (30.6), including a long return of 42 yards, as well as returns of 40 yards and 37 yards to provide the Tigers with good field position resulting in three of the team's six touchdown drives. Through three games, he has 325 yards on 13 returns (25.0), and is tied for fifth in the ODAC in kick return average and is 47th in Division III. Foley adds 110 yards rushing on 16 attempts (6.9) and one touchdown, and has two receptions for 14 receiving yards. Will is also second in the ODAC in all-purpose yards (449) and all-purpose yards per game (149.7).

H-SC will have a bye week (Sept. 26) before beginning ODAC competition on the road—for the third time already this season—at Shenandoah University in two weeks on Saturday, October 3, at 1 p.m. in Winchester.
