HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- (RV)Hampden-Sydney College plays on the road at the University of New England in non-conference football action on Saturday, September 19, at 12 p.m. in Biddeford, Maine. The Tigers, receiving votes in the latest AFCA D3 Coaches Poll, are 1-1 overall following a 31-19 non-conference home win past (RV)Monmouth (IL) College on Sept. 12 on Fulton Field at Lewis C. Everett Stadium. UNE is 0-2 overall following a 22-21 non-conference road loss at Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Sept. 12 in Worcester, Massachusetts. The game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM, and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, pregame airing at 11:30 a.m., while available to watch via UNE Athletics.

Last week, H-SC led 14-7 after one quarter, 24-7 at halftime and 31-13 after three quarters en route to the 31-19 win against Monmouth. UNE led 7-0 after one quarter, but trailed 17-7 at halftime and 17-14 after three quarters, before taking a 21-17 lead early in the fourth quarter only to witness WPI scoring five points in the final seven-seconds for the improbable win. UNE had elected to take a safety at :07, and the ensuing squib kick was downed at the UNE 33 with WPI kicking a game-winning 50-yard field goal as time expired for the win.

Head Coach Vince Luvara
H-SC is led by the third-year head coach who took over the program on December 7, 2023. The former defensive coordinator at Washington & Jefferson (PA) College from 2016-23, Luvara is the 29th head coach in the 131-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native is no stranger to NCAA Division III, having played four years at Allegheny (PA) College and coached one year at Allegheny and two years at Misericordia (PA) University—each school members of Division III. Luvara is 13-9 at the College.

The Series
H-SC and UNE are playing for the first-time ever. The Nor'easters have only competed in football since 2018, finishing 2-7 during their inaugural season. UNE was 8-2 a year ago, including 6-0 at home.

Scouting The Tigers
Junior quarterback Connor Creech (Winston-Salem, NC) has passed for 325 yards (31-51-3) and four touchdowns with three interceptions thrown in two games, adding 103 yards rushing on 26 attempts (4.0) and two touchdowns. He is second in the ODAC in total offense (428) and total offense per game (214.0), tied for second in rushing touchdowns and points per game (6.0), third in passing yards and completion percentage (60.8), fourth in passing touchdowns and fifth in passing efficiency (128.4). Connor ranks 25th in Division III points responsible for (36).

Senior running back Terry Hicks (Clayton, NC) has rushed for 211 yards on 39 attempts (5.4), adding four receptions for 21 yards receiving. He leads the ODAC in rushing yards and rushing yards per game (105.5), is fourth in all-purpose yards (232) and all-purpose yards per game (116.0), and is eighth in total offense (211) and total offense per game (105.5). Sophomore running back Will Foley (Virginia Beach) has rushed for 108 yards on 14 attempts (7.7) and one touchdown, adding one reception. He leads the ODAC in all-purpose yards (280) and all-purpose yards per game (140.0), is tied for seventh in rushing touchdowns and is 10th in rushing yards and rushing yards per game (54.0).

Sophomore wide receiver Dario Benaglia (Frisco, TX) has seven receptions for 103 yards receiving and two touchdowns. He is tied for first in the ODAC in receiving touchdowns, tied for second in touchdowns and points per game (6.0), tied for sixth in receiving yards and receiving yards per game (51.5), and tied for seventh in receptions per game (3.5) and yards per reception (14.7). Senior wide receiver Tyler Hendley (Charlotte, NC) has four receptions for 70 yards receiving and one touchdown. He is fifth in the ODAC in yards per reception (17.5) and tied for sixth in receiving touchdowns. Sophomore wide receiver Max Nitti (Appomattox) has four receptions for 47 yards receiving. Senior wide receiver Aaron Chaney (Belmont, NC) has three receptions for 24 yards receiving. Senior wide receiver James Bishop (Jacksonville, FL) has two receptions for 22 yards receiving and one touchdown. He is tied for sixth in the ODAC in receiving touchdowns.

Junior linebacker Frank Brewer (Charlotte, NC) has 22 tackles, 11 solo, 4.5 for loss, one sack and one interception. He is tied for first in the ODAC in solo tackles and tackles for loss, tied for second in interceptions, tied for fourth in tackles and tackles per game (11.0), and tied for 10th in sacks. Frank is 18th in Division III tackles for loss. Sophomore linebacker Gavin Gallavan (Richmond) also has 22 tackles, eight solo, 0.5 for loss, 0.5 sacks and two quarterback hurries. He is tied for fourth in the ODAC in tackles and tackles per game (11.0). Junior safety Mitch Ladamus (Fort Mill, SC) has 21 tackles, nine solo, and 1.0 for loss. He is tied for sixth in the ODAC in tackles and tied for ninth in solo tackles. Junior cornerback Parks Cromwell (Charlotte, NC) has 14 tackles, 11 solo, 1.0 for loss, one interception, four pass breakups and one quarterback hurry. He leads the ODAC in passes defended (5) and pass breakups, is tied for first in solo tackles and tied for second in interceptions. Parks is 13th in Division III passes defended. Sophomore safety Will Bostwick (Bluffton, SC) has 10 tackles, four solo, and one forced fumble. He is tied for first in the ODAC in forced fumbles. Junior defensive lineman Kenen Barlowe (North Chesterfield) has eight tackles, five solo, 2.0 for loss, 1.5 sacks and one quarterback hurry. He is tied for fifth in the ODAC in sacks and tied for eighth in tackles for loss. Sophomore defensive end Braden Lyons (Virginia Beach) has seven tackles, three solo, 2.0 for loss, 1.0 sacks and one pass breakup. He is also tied for eighth in the ODAC in tackles for loss and is tied for 10th in sacks. Sophomore cornerback Tyshaun Baldwin (Riverdale, GA) is also tied for second in the ODAC in interceptions (1). Freshman defensive lineman Matthew Wright (Canton, GA) is tied for first in the ODAC in fumbles recovered (1). Matthew is seventh in Division III in fumbles recovered.

Sophomore placekicker/punter Hank Webb (Salisbury, NC) has averaged 44.8 yards on five punts, including a long of 55 yards, one fair-caught and one inside the 20. He is 6-6 on PAT kicks (1.000) and 1-2 on field goals (.500), including a long of 33 yards, and has averaged 60.3 yards (five-yard line) on six kickoffs with one touchback. Webb leads the ODAC with one field goal, and while he does not qualify for the punting minimum attempts; if he did, he would lead the ODAC in punting average. Senior punter Camden Richardson (Midlothian) has averaged 37.0 yards on three punts, including a long of 46 yards. 

Will Foley has averaged 21.5 yards on eight kick returns, including a long of 25 yards. He is seventh in the ODAC in kick return average. Aaron Chaney has averaged 10.4 yards on five punt returns, including a long of 26 yards. He leads the ODAC in punt return average.

Scouting The Nor'easters
Senior quarterback Chris Lang has passed for 481 yards (31-63-2) and five touchdowns with two interceptions thrown in two games. Senior running back Damien Jones has rushed for 212 yards on 39 attempts (5.4) and two touchdowns. Senior running back Nathan Delgado has rushed for 82 yards on 20 attempts (4.1). Senior running back Javin Willis has rushed for 37 yards on eight attempts (4.6) and one touchdown, and adds five receptions for 24 yards and one touchdown. Junior wide receiver Quinn Carlson has six receptions for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore wide receiver Will McLoughlin has six receptions for 59 yards in one game. Sophomore wide receiver Max Viglione has two receptions for 87 yards and one touchdown. Junior wide receiver Cam Kearney has one reception for 33 yards and one touchdown.

Graduate linebacker Jeremy Franzini has 18 tackles, 16 solo, and one quarterback hurry. Senior defensive back Spencer Sherck has 15 tackles, nine solo. Junior linebacker Aidan Blood has 14 tackles, 12 solo, one interception and two quarterback hurries. Sophomore defensive back Jake Brooks has 10 tackles, six solo, and three pass breakups. Sophomore linebacker Jack Grant has nine tackles, four solo, and one tackle for loss.

Junior punter Cam Durkin has averaged 37.8 yards on 11 punts, including a long of 63 yards, with two fair-caught, three inside the 20 and one blocked. Freshman placekicker Ben Durkin is 5-6 on PAT kicks (.833) and 1-1 on field goals, including a long of 23 yards. Freshman placekicker Jonathan Adams has averaged 50.6 yards on 12 kickoffs (15-yard line) with one touchback. Nathan Delgado has averaged 24.3 yards on three kick returns, including a long of 41 yards. Damien Jones has averaged 19.3 yards on three kick returns, including a long of 21 yards, and has also averaged 10.3 yards on three punt returns, including a long of 19 yards. Javin Willis has averaged 19.2 yards on five kick returns, including a long of 22 yards.

2,000 Career Rushing Yards
Terry Hicks surpassed 2,000 career yards rushing with his 156-yard effort at Wabash (9/5). He now totals 2,167 career rushing yards on 412 career attempts (5.3) and 25 career touchdowns in 28 career games, and is fast-approaching the all-time Top 10 at the College.

100-Yard Rushing Games
Terry Hicks has 10 career games with 100-plus yards rushing, including one this season: a game-high 156 yards on 22 attempts at Wabash (9/5). He had five 100-yard rushing games in 2025: a game-high 192 yards on a career-high 31 attempts and a career-high three touchdowns vs. Shenandoah (9/20/25) ... a game-high 137 yards on 19 attempts and one touchdown vs. Bridgewater (11/8/25) ... a game-high 136 yards on 27 attempts and one touchdown vs. Roanoke (10/25/25) ... a game-high 128 yards on 27 attempts and one touchdown at Delaware Valley (9/6/25) ... a game-high 126 yards on 26 attempts and two touchdowns vs. W&L (10/4/25). Hampden-Sydney Football
H-SC has a 131-year history of football, amassing 591 wins since beginning in 1892. The Tigers have experienced great success over the years, including nine ODAC Championships, 10 Mason-Dixon Conference Championships, seven NCAA Division III Championship Playoff appearances, 88 All-America selections, 13 Academic All-America selections and 229 First Team All-ODAC honorees. H-SC also played in the 1970 and 1971 Knute Rockne Bowls (NCAA College Division East Regional Championship).

From Division III To FBS Arkansas
Ryan Silverfield '03 (51-26 career record) became the 35th head coach in the University of Arkansas football history in November 2025. Ryan won his coaching debut with the Razorbacks of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), a 31-14 home win past the University of North Alabama on September 5 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Silverfield has been one of the most successful head coaches in the country since taking over the University of Memphis program in December 2019, going 50-25, including a pair of 10-plus win seasons in 2023 and 2024, while earning bowl eligibility in all six years. With eight wins in 2025, Memphis posted 29 victories over the last three seasons to be among the nation's Top 15 programs in wins. His final season with the Tigers also extended the Memphis program's streak to 12-straight bowl appearances – the longest streak among non-Power 4 programs in the nation. Ryan coached four seasons as an undergraduate at H-SC, starting as an offensive assistant in 2000, serving as the defensive line coach during 2001 and 2002, before coaching the tight ends and H-backs in 2003.
