Hampden-Sydney Stands Fifth At The 2026 ODAC Men's Golf Championships

AMHERST, Va. -- Sophomore Groves Williams (Greenville, SC) posted a second-round score of one-over par 73 on Monday for a 36-hole score of 80-73—153 to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a round of 319 and a two-day score of 629 (310-319) at the 2026 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Golf Championships being played at the Poplar Grove Golf Club in Amherst. The Tigers stand fifth among the 10 conference teams, while Williams is tied for eighth individually among the 50 collegiate golfers.

Williams had four birdies and nine pars during his round of 73 that tied for the third-best of the day at the par 72, 7,082-yard course, and now has six birdies and 17 pars through two rounds. He is being followed by sophomore Garnett Hall (Richmond) (74-84—158, 19th), junior team captain Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (80-80—160, T-24th), along with sophomores Oliver Tobin (Charlotte, NC) (79-82—161, T-28th) and Luke Combs (Newport News) (77-84—161, T-28th). Hall had one birdie and 10 pars, and now has five birdies and 18 pars. Barnes had one eagle (564-yard sixth hole), one birdie and eight pars, and now has the eagle, two birdies and 18 pars. Tobin had one birdie and nine pars, and now has two birdies and 20 pars. Combs had two birdies and eight pars, and now has five birdies and 16 pars.

Guilford (NC) College is leading the championships with its team score of 311-299—610, followed by fifth-ranked Washington and Lee University (304-313—617), Randolph-Macon College (315-306—621), 17th-ranked the University of Lynchburg (305-320—625) and H-SC (629) among the top five teams. W&L's Jonathan McEwen, the top-ranked golfer in Division III, is the individual leader at three-over par 73-74—147.

H-SC will continue and complete its competition in the three-day, 54-hole tournament on Tuesday, April 21, with morning tee-times in Amherst.
