Luke Combs (Newport News) posted a 36-hole score of 74-70—144 on Monday to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 36-hole team score of 302-299—601 at the
Tiger Invitational being hosted by the Garnet & Grey and played at the Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Combs is tied for 18th individually among 100 collegiate golfers, while the Tigers stand 18th among 20 teams.
Combs had seven birdies and 24 pars during his opening two rounds on the 6,952-yard, par 72 course and is being followed by junior team captain
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (78-73—151, T-60th), senior team captain
Pierce Lambert (Hartfield) (73-81—154, T-79th) and junior
Nick Bernard (Southern Shores, NC) (77-77—154, T-79th), along with freshman
Matthew Teegardin (Charleston, SC) (78-79—157, T-89th). Barnes had five birdies and 23 pars,
Pierce Lambert had four birdies and 20 pars, Bernard had 26 pars and Teegardin had three birdies and 20 pars.
No. 11 Methodist (NC) University is leading the event with its nine-under par 286-281—567, while Kevin Mu of No. 2 Emory (GA) University is the individual leader at seven-under par 68-69—137.
The Tigers' B Team is competing in the same event, and is being led by junior
Peyton Lambert (Hartfield) (70-77—147, T-38th) and sophomore
Garnett Hall (Richmond) (74-73—147, T-38th) with respective scores of 147 that led to a 36-hole team score of 301-302—603 (19th).
Peyton Lambert had six birdies and 22 pars during his opening two rounds, and Hall had five birdies and 24 pars. They are being followed by sophomore
Oliver Tobin (Charlotte, NC) (78-76—154, T-79th), freshman
Hudson Griffin (Pinehurst, NC) (79-76—155, T-84th) and sophomore
Sean Acree (Chesterfield) (80-78—158, T-92nd). Tobin had three birdies and 21 pars, Griffin had three birdies and 22 pars, and Acree had three birdies and 21 pars, as well.
H-SC will continue and complete competition in the two-day, 54-hole tournament on Tuesday in North Carolina.

Hampden-Sydney Invitational at Foxfire being hosted by the program, as well, and played at the Foxfire Golf Club in Foxfire Village, North Carolina. Junior
Joseph Weinstein (Midlothian) posted an 18-hole score of 76 on Monday to lead the C Team to a score of 320, as Weinstein is tied for 32nd individually among 122 golfers, while the C Team stands ninth among 14 teams.
Weinstein had two birdies and 10 pars during his opening round on the 6,755-yard, par 72 course and is being followed by senior
Jack Hoyle (Midlothian) (80, T-64th), sophomore
Groves Williams (Greenville, SC) (81, T-72nd), freshman
Sam Hahn (Richmond) (83, T-88th) and junior
Tucker Smith (Richmond) (85, T-99th). Smith provided the highlight of the day when he holed his second shot on the 517-yard, par 5 ninth for a double-eagle "2" on the scorecard. Williams had four birdies and seven pars, while Hoyle and Hahn each had 11 pars, and Smith added three pars.

Cole Wright (Wake Forest, NC) posted an 18-hole score of 75 to lead the D Team to a score of 332, as Wright is tied for 29th and the D Team stands 12th. Wright had two birdies and 11 pars and is being followed by junior
Tucker Poole (Norfolk) (82, T-79th), seniors
Jack Davis (Radford) (84, T-94th) and
Jack Craig (Raleigh, NC) (91, T-114th), along with junior
Owen Sibley (Dallas, TX) (96, T-119th). Freshman
Ryan Smith (Atlanta, GA) (82, T-79th) is competing as an individual in the event. Craig had one birdie and six pars, and Sibley had one birdie and five pars, while Poole and Davis each had 10 pars. Smith had 11 pars.
Carnegie Mellon (PA) University's B Team is leading the event with its 282, while Nikko Taggart of Southern Virginia University is the individual leader at four-under par 68.
H-SC's C and D Golf Teams will continue and complete competition in the two-day, 36-hole tournament on Tuesday in North Carolina.
