Luke Combs (Newport News) and sophomore
Garnett Hall (Richmond) each posted a first-round score of two-under par 70 on Friday to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a round of three-over par 291 at the
Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational being played at the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Georgia. The Tigers stand in a tie for 14th among the 30 teams in the annual collegiate golf event, while Combs and Hall are each tied for 25th individually among the 150 collegiate golfers.
Combs had four birdies and 12 pars during his opening round at the par 72, 6,730-yard Pine Lakes course, and Hall had seven birdies and eight pars during his round. They are being followed by sophomore
Oliver Tobin (Charlotte, NC) (75, 85th), junior team captain
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (76, 104th) and junior
Peyton Lambert (Hartfield) (81, 142nd). Tobin had two birdies and 11 pars. Barnes had two birdies and 12 pars. Lambert had four birdies and four pars.

SCOREBOARD powered by clippd NCAA Division III Men's Golf rankings, including nine of the Top 10, as top-ranked Huntingdon (AL) College and sixth-ranked Sewanee (TN) are leading the event with respective 17-under par team rounds of 271. HC's Cole Humphrey is the individual leader at nine-under par 63. The Tigers are currently tied with second-ranked Emory (GA) University at 291, and ahead of five schools ranked among the Top 25, while just four shots from the Top 10 and only 10 shots from the Top Five.
H-SC will continue its competition in the three-day, 54-hole tournament on Saturday, March 21, with tee-times beginning at 8:49 a.m. in Georgia.
