Luke Combs (Newport News posted a 36-hole score of 76-76—152 on Monday to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 36-hole team score of 309-316—625 at the
Savannah Invitational being played at The Club of Savannah Harbor in Georgia. Complete team and individual results were not available due to nine of the 20 participating schools not completing round two.
Combs had four birdies and 24 pars during his opening two rounds on the 6,928-yard, par 72 course and is being followed by junior team captain
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (75-81—156), junior
Nick Bernard (Southern Shores, NC) (76-81—157), along with sophomores
Garnett Hall (Richmond) (82-78—160) and
Oliver Tobin (Charlotte, NC) (85-84—169). Barnes had four birdies and 17 pars during his day. Bernard had five birdies and 17 pars. Hall had five birdies and 15 pars. Tobin had two birdies and 15 pars.
The Tigers' B Team is in Savannah, as well, and is competing in the
Port City Classic—posting rounds of 304 and 302 for a 36-hole score of 606 to stand seventh among the 20 teams in that tournament. Freshman
Matthew Teegardin (Charleston, SC) is leading the group with his four-over par 73-73—146 that is tied for sixth individually among the 104 golfers.
Teegardin posted eight birdies and 16 pars during his opening two rounds on the par 71, 6,739-yard layout. He is being followed by sophomore
Sean Acree (Chesterfield) (76-73—149, T-17th), junior
Peyton Lambert (Hartfield) (77-77—154, T-42nd), senior
Pierce Lambert (Hartfield) (78-79—157, T-63rd) and junior
Tucker Smith (Richmond) (81-79—160, T-74th). Acree had six birdies and 18 pars.

Pierce Lambert each had four birdies and 18 pars, ironically, while Smith had three birdies and 19 pars.
Centre (KY) College is leading the event with its 294-297—591, while Charlie Wilkerson of Randolph-Macon College is the individual leader at two-over par 75-69—144.
H-SC and its B Team will continue and complete their respective competitions in the two-day, 54-hole tournaments on Tuesday, March 3, with early morning tee times in Savannah, Georgia.
