HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, welcomes Guilford (NC) College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball action on Wednesday night, January 7, at 7 p.m. on the new Tony Shaver Court in Diaz Arena at the renovated Kirby Field House. The host Tigers are 7-4 overall, 1-1 in the ODAC, while the visiting Quakers are 6-5 overall, 0-2 in the ODAC. It's the first of 14 consecutive conference games to complete the regular season. Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the seventh-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 116-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 113-48 at the College, ranking sixth in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.702) ranks second all-time. He is a two-time National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year and the 2024-25 D3hoops.com Region 6 Coach of the Year.

Scouting Guilford
GC, coached by first-year head coach Jesse DeLoof, is the defending ODAC Tournament Champion and lost its most recent game to Washington and Lee University 90-88 on Jan. 3 at home. The Quakers have been led by sophomore guard Braylen Salters (21.4 points, 21 3FGs), senior guard Gabe Proctor (20.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 42 3FGs), graduate guard Dawson Edwards (10.8 points, 5.3 rebounds) and freshman guard Reynolds Escher (10.6 points, 5.0 rebounds). GC shoots 41% (363-883) from the field, including 33% (113-343) on three-pointers, and 72% (230-318) at the line. The Quakers average 97.2 points, and yield 88.1 points, for a +9.1 scoring margin.
Series History
H-SC and GC are playing for the 67th time since the Quakers joined the ODAC for the 1991-92 season. The Tigers lead the series at 40-26, and have won two of the last three games played between the schools, including a
78-71 home win last February 12. H-SC has won four-straight home games against GC since Coach Kimbrough took over the program prior to 2019-20, and the Tigers also defeated the Quakers 62-57 in the NCAA Division III National Semifinals on March 14, 2024 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Coach Kimbrough is 5-6 overall against his alma mater, and the average margin of victory is 5.5 points in 10 of the 11 games that have been decided by three possessions or less.
Another Level
Santana Lynch has taken his game to another level this season ... averaging 12.1 points and 7.1 rebounds, while shooting 62% (51-82) from the field, including 23% (3-13) on three-point field goals, and 68% (28-41) at the free throw line. He has nine double-figure scoring games, including a career-high 19 points vs. Pfeiffer (11/23). Lynch has three double-figure rebounding games, including a career-high 12 rebounds on two occasions, most recent vs. Wilson (12/19). Santana was limited to four games early last season before a season-ending injury in December.
Mr. Consistency
Travis Stickney remains steady and consistent in his second year starting—he has started all 40 games of his collegiate career—averaging 12.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists this season, while shooting 40% (48-121) from the field, including 29% (15-52) on three-point field goals, and 81% (21-26) at the free throw line. He has six double-figure scoring games, including a career-high 30 points vs. (11)Redlands (12/20), and also has career-highs of 10 rebounds vs. Wilson (12/19), seven assists vs. (11)Redlands (12/20) and seven steals vs. (7)UW-La Crosse (11/7). Travis started all 29 games last season, averaging 7.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists.

Peter Moye has also taken his game to another level this season ... averaging 11.7 points and 4.3 rebounds, while shooting 47% (45-95) from the field, including 40% (19-48) on three-point field goals, and 91% (20-22) at the free throw line. He has eight double-figure scoring games, including a career-high 21 points at Eastern Mennonite (12/6)—making a career-high five three-pointers. Moye also grabbed a career-high of eight rebounds vs. Wilson (12/19). Peter played in 23 games last season, averaging 4.5 points and 1.8 rebounds.
Next Level 3.0
Tugg Bizzelle has taken his game to another level this season, as well ... averaging 9.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists, while shooting 42% (37-88) from the field, including 46% (10-22) on three-point field goals, and 57% (20-35) at the free throw line. He has four double-figure scoring games, including a career-high 19 points at Salisbury (11/12)—making a career-high five three-pointers. Bizzelle also grabbed a career-high eight rebounds at Salisbury (11/12), and has equaled his season-high with four assists on three occasions, most recent at (2)Randolph-Macon (12/3). Tugg started three of 29 games last season, averaging 3.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
Blocking Skills
At 6-9, junior center
Alex Cannon (Loganville, GA) has the height not typically found on a Division III roster, and he is taking full advantage this season as evidenced by his 23 blocks ... averaging 2.1 blocks per game that leads the ODAC and ranks 23rd nationally. He has started (the last) eight of 11 games, and is averaging career-highs of 5.5 points and 6.1 rebounds, while shooting 60% (27-45) from the field. He has posted career-highs of 10 points vs. (11)Redlands (12/20) and 11 rebounds vs. Pfeiffer (11/23), along with a season-high four blocks on two occasions, most recent vs. (11)Redlands (12/20).

Leading the Tigers is senior guard
Grayson Schultz (Moseley), who is a second-year team member serving in the leadership role for the first time. He was a team manager during his first two years at the College, before joining the team for 2024-25. Grayson is the son of Glenn and Paige Schultz and is majoring in economics and business at the College.
Program History
H-SC is competing in its 116th-year of basketball during 2025-26. The Tigers have an overall program record of
1,547-1,106 since beginning in 1908. H-SC has posted 64 winning seasons, 18 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships.
NCAA Tournament History
H-SC has made
17 NCAA Tournament appearances since 1989, winning at least one game in 14 of the 17 years, while compiling an overall NCAA Tournament record of 27-18. The Tigers advanced to the Final Four in 1999, 2003 and 2024, and to the National Championship in 1999 and 2024. H-SC was National Runner-Up in 2024, falling to Trine (IN) 69-61, as well as in 1999, falling to UW-Platteville 76-75 in double-overtime. The Tigers fell to Gustavus Adolphus (MN) 79-68 in the 2003 National Semifinals. H-SC advanced to the Elite Eight in 1995, 1998, 1999, 2003 and 2024, while reaching the Sweet 16 in 1992, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2024 and 2025. The Tigers have hosted 24 NCAA Tournament games since 1992, compiling an impressive record of 19-5.
Former Tigers Now Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has two former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches.
Russell Turner '92 is in his 16th year at UC Irvine and
Ryan Odom '96 is in his first season at Virginia and his 10th season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State, VCU). Through Jan. 5, Turner was 332-192 at UCI (11-5 this season) and Odom was 213-119 overall, including 12-2 this season at (23/23)UVA, 52-21 in two years at VCU, 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC.
Griff Aldrich '96 is in his first season as the associate head coach at UVA after serving as head coach at Longwood the past seven seasons where he was 127-100 overall. Additionally,
Ryan Silverfield '03 was named the 35th head football coach at Arkansas on November 30. Silverfield was 50-25 in six years at Memphis, including 8-4 this season.
