HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, plays on the road at Randolph College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball action on Wednesday night, January 21, at 7 p.m. in Lynchburg. The visiting Tigers are 10-5 overall, 4-2 in the ODAC, while the host WildCats are 4-11 overall, 0-6 in the ODAC. The game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM, and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch at flocollege.com.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the seventh-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 116-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 116-49 at the College, ranking sixth in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.703) ranks second all-time. He is a two-time National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year and the 2024-25 D3hoops.com Region 6 Coach of the Year.

2025-26 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough is aided this season by second-year associate head coach Bryson Gibson, also in his seventh year with the program, fourth-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Zach Hinton.

Scouting (RV)Hampden-Sydney
H-SC has won three of its last four games, including an 87-81 conference home win past the University of Lynchburg on Jan. 17. The Tigers have been led by a trio of sophomore guards in Santana Lynch (Dallas, TX) (12.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 57% FGs), Peter Moye (Charlotte, NC) (11.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 24-3FGs) and Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) (11.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 21-3FGs). Senior guard Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC) (9.5 points, 30-3FGs), senior forward Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) (8.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists), sophomore guard Tugg Bizzelle (Baltimore, MD) (8.4 points, 11-3FGs) and junior center Alex Cannon (Loganville, GA) (5.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, 65% FGs) are each contributing significantly, as well. H-SC shoots 45% (409-900) from the field, including 31% (96-308) on three-point field goals, and 66% (206-313) at the free throw line. The Tigers average 74.7 points, and yield 70.3 points, for a +4.4 scoring margin. 

Scouting Randolph
Randolph, coached by second-year head coach Evan Kee, has lost four-straight and eight of its last nine games, including a 77-65 conference road loss at Washington and Lee University on Jan. 17. The WildCats have been led by freshman guard Aveion Tucker (11.8 points, 4.2 assists, 11-3FGs), freshman forward Trey Miller (10.3 points, 8.3 rebounds) and junior forward Elijah Cox (10.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 13-3FGs). Randolph shoots 42% (377-903) from the field, including 32% (114-356) on three-pointers, and 66% (195-294) at the line. The WildCats average 70.9 points, and yield 76.1 points, for a -5.2 scoring margin.

Series History
H-SC leads the all-time series between the two schools, 14-7. The Tigers have won six-straight and seven of the last eight games in the young series, including 105-92 in the only game last season on Jan. 22, 2025 in Lynchburg. Randolph won the first-ever contest between the two schools, 57-49, on Jan. 28, 2009 in Lynchburg, and the WildCats are 6-5 at home versus H-SC. Coach Kimbrough is 6-0 against Randolph, including 3-0 in Lynchburg.

NCAA Division III Statistics (Top 10)
H-SC leads Division III in rebound margin (12.9), and ranks seventh nationally in rebounds per game (44.8) and 10th in defensive rebounds (30.5).

H-SC is receiving votes (9) in the week seven D3hoops.com Top 25 of Jan. 19. The Tigers are receiving votes for the third-straight week. The Garnet & Grey were ranked 17th in preseason, and have been as high as No. 8 in week two, while ranked 16th in week four (Dec. 15). Defending National Champion and unbeaten Trinity (CT) College (16-0) has remained at No. 1 all season, currently with 625 points and all 25 first-place votes.

The Team Three-Point Stat
H-SC has made at least one three-point field goal in 537 consecutive games, dating back to a 2005 home game vs. Emory & Henry (12/3, 0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest ... 130-99 without making a three-pointer.

2025-26 Team Captain
Leading the Tigers is senior guard Grayson Schultz (Moseley), who is a second-year team member serving in the leadership role for the first time. He was a team manager during his first two years at the College, before joining the team for 2024-25. Grayson is the son of Glenn and Paige Schultz and is majoring in economics and business at the College.

Program History
H-SC is competing in its 116th-year of basketball during 2025-26. The Tigers have an overall program record of 1,550-1,107 since beginning in 1908. H-SC has posted 64 winning seasons, 18 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships.

NCAA Tournament History
H-SC has made 17 NCAA Tournament appearances since 1989, winning at least one game in 14 of the 17 years, while compiling an overall NCAA Tournament record of 27-18. The Tigers advanced to the Final Four in 1999, 2003 and 2024, and to the National Championship in 1999 and 2024. H-SC was National Runner-Up in 2024, falling to Trine (IN) 69-61, as well as in 1999, falling to UW-Platteville 76-75 in double-overtime. The Tigers fell to Gustavus Adolphus (MN) 79-68 in the 2003 National Semifinals. H-SC advanced to the Elite Eight in 1995, 1998, 1999, 2003 and 2024, while reaching the Sweet 16 in 1992, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2024 and 2025. The Tigers have hosted 24 NCAA Tournament games since 1992, compiling an impressive record of 19-5.

Former Tigers Now Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has two former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 16th year at UC Irvine and Ryan Odom '96 is in his first season at Virginia and his 10th season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State, VCU). Through Jan. 19, Turner was 333-194 at UCI (12-7 this season) and Odom was 217-119 overall, including 16-2 this season at (16/16)UVA, 52-21 in two years at VCU, 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC. Griff Aldrich '96 is in his first season as the associate head coach at UVA after serving as head coach at Longwood the past seven seasons where he was 127-100 overall. Additionally, Ryan Silverfield '03 was named the 35th head football coach at Arkansas on November 30. Silverfield was 50-25 in six years at Memphis, including 8-4 this season.

H-SC remains on the road at ODAC opponent Averett University on Friday, Jan. 23, at 5 p.m. in Danville—a contest re-scheduled to Friday due to the weather forecast for Saturday. The Tigers are scheduled to play at home vs. conference opponent Virginia Wesleyan University on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. in Diaz Arena. It will be both Garnet & Grey Night and the program's Coaches vs. Cancer contest in support of the NABC and American Cancer Society efforts to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.
