Hampden-Sydney Finishes 23rd At The NCAA Division III Fall Preview

FINAL RESULTS

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. --
Sophomore Garnet Hall (Richmond) posted a third-round score of even-par 72 on Tuesday to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a final round of 304 and a 54-hole team score of 912 (305-303-304) at the NCAA Division III Fall Preview played at the Mission Resort & Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida. The Tigers finished 23rd among the 24 teams in the annual collegiate golf event.

Hall was very consistent during his round of 72 with two birdies and 15 pars on the 6,750-yard, par 72 El Campeon course. Sophomore Luke Combs (Newport News) led H-SC with his 72-76-76—224 that tied for 55th among the 120 collegiate golfers. He was followed by Hall (80-76-72—228, T-80th), junior Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (78-75-77—230, T-95th) and sophomore Oliver Tobin (Charlotte, NC) (75-76-79—230, T-95th), along with junior Nick Bernard (Southern Shores, NC) (85-76-81—242, T-115th).

Combs finished the tournament with six birdies and 34 pars. Hall had three birdies and 40 pars, tying for second among the field in pars. Barnes finished with nine birdies and 29 pars. Tobin had five birdies and 31 pars, while Bernard finished with six birdies and 30 pars.

Emory (GA) won the prestigious event with its two-over par 282-289-291—862, while Jackson Hiller of Oglethorpe (Ga) was the individual medalist at 13-under par 66-68-68—202.

H-SC will compete again in the two-day, 54-hole West Pines Collegiate on October 6-7 at the West Pines Golf Club in Douglasville, Georgia.
