Luke Combs (Newport News) posted a first-round score of one-over par 72 on Sunday to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a round of 305 at the
NCAA Division III Fall Preview being played at the Mission Resort & Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida. The Tigers stand in a tie for 20th among the 24 teams in the annual collegiate golf event, while Combs is tied for 26th among the 120 collegiate golfers.
Combs had four birdies and 10 pars during his opening round at the par 71, 6,689-yard Los Colinas course, and is being followed by sophomore
Oliver Tobin (Charlotte, NC) (75, T-62nd), junior
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (78, T-89th), sophomore
Garnet Hall (Richmond) (80, T-107th) and junior
Nick Bernard (Southern Shores, NC) (85, 118th). Tobin had four birdies and five pars. Barnes had one birdie and 12 pars. Hall had 13 pars and Bernard had three birdies and seven pars.
Kenyon (OH) is leading the event with its six-under par 278, while Jackson Hiller of Oglethorpe (GA) is the individual leader at five-under par 66.
H-SC will continue its competition in the three-day, 54-hole tournament on Monday, September 22, at 9:50 a.m. on the Resort's El Campion course near Orlando.
