No. 19 Hampden-Sydney Finishes 14th At the Gate City Invitational

FINAL RESULTS

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The nationally-ranked No. 19 Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a final round of 293 on Tuesday for a 54-hole score of 302-304-293—899 to move up two spots and finish 14th among 18 teams at the Gate City Invitational played at the Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. Juniors Nick Bernard (Southern Shores, NC) (78-75-71—224) and Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (75-74-75—224) led the Tigers with their respective scores of 224 that tied for 46th individually among the 96 collegiate golfers.

Bernard had four birdies and 10 pars during his final round of one-under par 71 on the 7,020-yard, par 72 layout and finished the tournament with nine birdies and 31 pars. He and Barnes were followed by sophomores Oliver Tobin (Charlotte, NC) (75-78-72—225, T-51st) and Luke Combs (Newport News (74-77-75—226, T-56th), along with freshman Matthew Teegardin (Charleston, SC) (79-78-75—232, T-78th). Barnes finished with 10 birdies and 29 pars, tying for 18th among the field in birdies. Tobin finished with one eagle, five birdies and 25 pars, tying for fifth among the field in eagles and 10th in par 3 scoring (3.00, E). Combs finished with eight birdies and 31 pars. Teegardin finished with nine birdies and 27 pars, tying for 10th among the field in par 3 scoring (3.00, E).

Sewanee (TN), ranked fifth in the Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches Poll, won the event with its three-under par 285-284-292—861.

H-SC, ranked 19th in the national coaches poll, will compete again at the NCAA Division III Preview on September 21-23, a 54-hole tournament at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida.
