HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College first-year head baseball coach Michael Mulvey has announced the recent appointment of Chad Wien as an assistant coach for the program. Wien has served the past four seasons (2021-24) as an assistant coach at Salisbury (MD) University, helping the Sea Gulls to the 2021 NCAA Division III National Championship and a National Runner-Up finish in 2022.

"After a national search, we are excited to announce the hiring of Chad Wien," said Mulvey. "Chad's coaching experience speaks for itself. He has done a phenomenal job at Salisbury developing their hitters, and coaching one of the best offenses in the country the last few years. His work ethic, organization and understanding of the game will be a valuable addition to the program. Chad will assume the role as our lead hitting instructor, and recruiting coordinator. We are looking forward to welcoming his wife Sarah, and two daughters Mia and Elodie, to the H-SC community."

Wien assisted primarily with hitting and developing offensive strategies at SU. In addition, he assisted with strategic in-game decisions, scheduling, budgeting and travel planning, while involved with recruiting, facilities maintenance and facilitating high academic performance of student-athletes. The Sea Gulls finished 34-4 in 2021 and 39-12 in 2022, won three consecutive C2C Conference Championships (2021-23) and made four-straight NCAA Regional appearances (2021-24), winning all four, along with three NCAA Super Regional and World Series appearances—SU was 36-8 in 2023 and 32-12 in 2024.

Wien also has coaching experience with the Delmarva Aces (2017-24), serving as head coach of the DCP 2026 National Team, and was an assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach at Indian River (DE) High School in 2020. He has recently instructed for the East Coast Titans, and was a player/coach for the University of South Florida Club Baseball Team (2017-19).

A native of Salisbury, Maryland, Wien graduated from South Florida in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology. He earned his Master of Education degree with a concentration in educational leadership from Salisbury in 2024.

Chad and his wife Sarah have two daughters, Mia and Elodie.
