HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College seventh-year head tennis coach
Byron Balkin has announced the program's team captains for the 2024-25 season. Leading the Tigers will be seniors
Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach) and
Henry Singleton (Richmond) along with junior
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon).
"I am grateful for Barrett, Henry, and Dillon and what they bring to our program in terms of their leadership," said Balkin "They each are consistent, caring, and committed to the process of being a Tiger."
Barrett Foster played all his matches from the No. 1 slot in both singles and doubles in 2024 before suffering a season-ending injury, posting a 2-3 record in singles, and a 4-1 record in doubles. He owns a 27-41 career singles record and a 41-39 career doubles record over his first three seasons with the Tigers. This season, Foster is 7-3 in singles and 8-4 in doubles. During his freshman season, Barrett was named Second Team All-ODAC in both singles and doubles in 2021-22, along with being named to the ODAC All-Academic Team.
"I am very proud to be named a captain by my teammates. Coming off of last year's injury, I am eager to get back out there and compete for one more season with my guys," said Foster. "We have made great strides as a program, and I've never been more confident in this team and our ability to make a run this spring season."
Henry Singleton played the majority of his singles and doubles matches from the No. 3 slot in 2024, posting an 8-8 record in singles and a 4-9 record in doubles. He owns a 31-33 career singles record and a 28-52 career doubles record over three seasons. This season, Singleton is 4-4 in singles action and 4-3 in doubles action.
"I'm honored to serve the Hampden-Sydney Tiger tennis team as one of three captains this year," said Singleton. "We have a great group of guys this year that are ready to compete. I am looking forward to what's ahead this spring season with this group."
Dillon McReynolds played his singles and doubles matches from both the No.1 and No. 2 positions, posting a 7-12 record and a 7-12 doubles record. McReynolds enters his third season with a career singles record of 22-27 and a career doubles record of 25-29. This season, Dillon is 2-6 in singles and 3-6 in doubles. Last season, he was named to the 2023-24 College Sports Communicators (CSC) All-District Men's Tennis Team for his work in the classroom.
"I'm both honored and excited to serve as captain again," said McReynolds. "We have a great team this year and I think we can accomplish a lot. I can't wait to get out there and compete with them."
H-SC is scheduled to play home against Washington (MD) College on Saturday, March 1, at 1 p.m. at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
