HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College hosts Otterbein (OH) University for the First Round of the 2025 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament on Saturday, November 15, at 3:30 p.m. at Hellmuth-Gibson Field. The Tigers are 13-3-2 on the season, while going 6-1-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), and are ranked 23rd in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25. The visiting Cardinals are 11-2-6 on the season, while going 6-1-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). The game can be watched live for free on

Tickets are required for entry to the game, and can be purchased
here. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for senior citizens (65 and older) and students (6 years old through college), plus ticketing fees. Tickets are good for both matches on Saturday.

H-SC is coming off a 2-0 loss in the ODAC Semifinals on November 1 against No. 2 seed Washington and Lee University. The Cardinals are coming off a 5-4 penalty kick win over No. 24 Ohio Northern University on November 9. The game was level through 110 minutes, forcing the penalty shootout, where the Cardinals converted all five of their penalties, while saving the first penalty to secure the conference title.

What's at Stake:
The Tigers seek their first NCAA Tournament win in program history. Otterbein looks to secure its 11th NCAA Tournament win and advance to the Second Round for the first time since 2021. The winner will advance to the second round and take on the winner of the earlier game between Emory (GA) University and Maryville (TN) College.

Head Coach Tommy DiNuzzo:
H-SC is led by the ninth-year head coach who took over the program on February 21, 2017. The former headman at the University of Maine at Farmington from 2013-16 has a career record of 95-101-27, with a 79-51-22 record at the college. He has made the ODAC tournament in eight of nine seasons, including twice as the top seed in 2019 and 2020. DiNuzzo has led the Tigers to the longest unbeaten streak in ODAC history, at a staggering 23 games from 2019-20.

This is the first match-up between the two sides. The Tigers have played both Emory and Maryville before. H-SC holds a 1-8-1 record against Emory, but won the last match-up on September 16, 2022. H-SC holds a 3-4 record against Maryville, losing the last match-up 2-1 on September 11, 2011.

Scouting The Tigers:
Senior forwards
Charlie Letson (Wilmington, NC) and
Walker Stebbings (Forest) have helped lead the line for the Tigers. Stebbings is the joint leading goalscorer for the Tigers with five goals, while adding two assists. His five goals rank T-13 in the ODAC, and he ranks T-14 in the ODAC in points with 12. Letson has scored four goals, which is tied for 18th in the conference.

H-SC has gotten great depth at the forward position from senior
Pierce Boerner (Midlothian), junior
Mo Wumpini (Chattanooga, TN), and freshman
Ubaid Wasi (Meherrin). Boerner is tied for the team lead in points with 12, coming from four goals and four assists. He is tied for 18th in conference in goals, tied for sixth in assists, and tied for 18th in points. Wumpini has been finding his teammates, as his three assists put him in a tie for 19th in the conference. Wasi has had a good start to his first campaign, scoring three times.

Other options higher up the pitch for the Tigers have been seniors
Mason Dudley (Virginia Beach) and
Jack Delaney (Virginia Beach), sophomores
Zakky Johnston (Meherrin) and

Jackson Robbins (Glen Allen). Dudley is the joint top goalscorer for the Tigers with five, which ranks him T-13 in the conference, and he has one assist. His 11 points put him in a tie for 19th in the conference. Johnston, in his return to the team, has four goals and one assist, with his four goals being T-18 in the ODAC. Mason has one goal and two assists as a regular starter for the Tigers, and Robbins has an assist as he has come on as the season has progressed.

Through the midfield, the Tigers have gotten plenty of production out of seniors
Victor Ovalle-Mares (Atlanta, GA) and
Michael Farmer (Virginia Beach), as well as sophomore
Kevin Nova Euceda (Woodbridge). Ovalle-Mares has scored three goals and added four assists this season. His 10 points his season put him in a tie for 23nd in the ODAC. Farmer has been a key midfielder off the bench this season, scoring twice and adding an assist. Nova Euceda has been an important starter alongside Ovalle-Mares, scoring once and assisting twice, but is more of a defensive midfielder to allow Victor to join the attack.

The defensive line has mainly been made up of juniors
Tyler Petz (Cary, NC) and
Mauricio Jimenez (Homestead, FL), sophomore
Colin Hallman (Cornelius, NC), and freshman
Owen Edwards (Matthews, NC). Junior
Kaden Sawyer (Virginia Beach) has also seen work in the defensive line. Petz leads the ODAC in assists with nine, three more than anyone else, while adding one goal. Tyler's nine assists place him in a tie for 30th in Division III. Jimenez has started every game at center back and has played more minutes than any outfield player. Hallman has two assists playing a combination of center back and fullback. Edwards has scored four goals, putting him T-18 in the conference. Sawyer has seen time in the midfield, but has started four times in the backline, tallying two assists.

Stig Larson (Richmond) has played every minute of every game for the Tigers this season, allowing 15 goals, for a .83 goals against average, with 42 saves, and seven shutouts. He ranks third in the conference in shutouts and in goals against average.

Scouting Otterbein:
The Cardinals are led by ninth-year head coach Jason Griffiths and have been led offensively by OAC Freshman of the Year Lincoln Wallace, who has a team-high 13 goals and four assists. Senior Nick Isaac is another key piece to the Cardinals' attack, as he has seven goals and a team-high eight assists. Additionally, Otterbein will look to get offense from senior Drew Boettcher, senior Patrick Ahrens, and freshman Xavier Stocks. Boettcher has four goals and four assists on the year, Ahrens has five goals and two assists, and Stocks has five goals and four assists.

Sophomore Jason Villalobos has been the main goalie for the Cardinals, starting all 15 games he has played, with 45 saves and 19 goals allowed. Freshman Jayden Burdline has been the one in net after coming in for Villalobos on October 22. He has made four straight starts and made 16 saves while only allowing two goals.

Emory is led by ninth-year head coach Cory Greiner and led offensively by graduate student Ignacio Cubeddu, who has a team-high 11 goals to go along with six assists. Additionally, the Eagles will look for offense graduate student Jack Burgess, senior Adeyemi Oni, University Athletic Association (UAA) Offensive Player of the Year junior Lorenzo Avalos, and junior Logan Steren. Burgess has three goals and five assists on the year, Adeyemi has six goals along with four assists, Avalos has seven goals and an assist, while Steren has four goals and two assists.

In net for the Eagles will likely be junior Geoffrey Halpern. He has made all but two starts for the Eagles, making 29 saves while allowing 11 goals. Halpern boasts a 12-1-2 record with five shutouts and one combined shutout.

Scouting Maryville:
The Scots are led by 36th-year head coach Pepe Fernandez and led offensively by sophomore Brady Hammer, who has 10 goals and 14 assists on the season. Freshman Ben Brophy is the other threat offensively for Maryville, scoring nine goals and adding two assists. Sophomore Ethan Denney and freshman Jonathan Case are two others to watch out for on the attack, with Denney scoring twice, while adding four assists, and Case scoring four goals with one assist.

In net for the Scots is either senior Christian Alcaraz or sophomore Tanner Ricks, with each starting and playing in eight games. Alcaraz has made 33 saves while allowing 12 goals, with two shutouts and one combined shutout. Ricks has made 47 saves while allowing 13 goals, with two shutouts and one combined shutout.
