Hampden-Sydney Finishes Seventh At The West Pines Collegiate

FINAL RESULTS

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- Sophomore Sean Acree (Chesterfield) posted a final round of three-under par 68 on Tuesday for a collegiate-best 54-hole score of one-over par 71-75-68—214 to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a season-best 54-hole team score of 286-299-291—876 at the West Pines Collegiate played at the West Pines Golf Club in Douglasville, Georgia. Acree tied for sixth individually among the 108 collegiate golfers, while the Tigers finished seventh among the 21 teams in the field.

Acree had six birdies and nine pars during his collegiate-best round of 68 on the 6,739-yard, par 71 course, and finished the three rounds with one eagle, 10 birdies and 31 pars. He led the tournament field in par 5 scoring (4.50, -6), tied for third in eagles, tied for eighth in par 4 scoring (4.04, +1) and tied for ninth in birdies.

Acree was followed by sophomores Luke Combs (Newport News (73-72-72—217, T-16th), Oliver Tobin (Charlotte, NC) (69-73-77—219, T-26th) and Groves Williams (Greenville, SC) (73-79-83—235, T-90th), along with junior team captain Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (84-82-74—240, 102nd). Freshman Matthew Teegardin (Charleston, SC) (76-73-78—227, T-59th) competed as an individual in the event.

Combs also posted a collegiate-best for 54 holes (217), and had two birdies and 13 pars during his final round, while finishing with nine birdies and 33 pars. He tied for 13th in par 3 scoring (3.07, +1) and tied for 17th in birdies. Tobin equaled his collegiate-best for 54 holes (219), and had three birdies and eight pars during his final round, while finishing with nine birdies and 32 pars. He also tied for 17th in birdies, and tied for 19th in both par 3 scoring (3.13, +2) and par 4 scoring (4.11, +3). Williams posted a collegiate-best for 54 holes (235), as well, and had one birdie and nine pars during his final round, while finishing with four birdies and 31 pars. Barnes had four birdies and nine pars during his final round, while finishing with six birdies and 26 pars. Teegardin also posted a collegiate-best for 54 holes (227), and had 11 pars during his final round, while finishing with one eagle, two birdies and 35 pars. He tied for third in eagles, tied for fifth in par 3 scoring (3.00, E) and tied for 18th in pars.

Rhodes (TN) won the event with its two-over par 278-284-292—854, while Colton O'Dell of 21st-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) was the individual medalist at seven-under par 70-65-71—206.

H-SC will compete again in the two-day, 54-hole Tartan Invitational on October 13-14 at the Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pennsylvania.
