Oliver Tobin (Charlotte, NC) posted a 36-hole score of even-par 69-73—142 on Monday to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 36-hole team score of 286-299—585 at the
West Pines Collegiate being played at the West Pines Golf Club in Douglasville, Georgia. Tobin is tied for eighth individually among the 108 collegiate golfers, while the Tigers stand eighth among the 21 teams in the field.
Tobin had six birdies and 24 pars during his opening two rounds on the 6,739-yard, par 71 course and is being followed by sophomores
Luke Combs (Newport News (73-72—145, T-20th),
Sean Acree (Chesterfield) (71-75—146, T-25th) and
Groves Williams (Greenville, SC) (73-79—152, T-67th), along with junior team captain
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (84-82—166, 105th). Combs had seven birdies and 20 pars during his three-over par day. Acree had one eagle, four birdies and 22 pars during his four-over day, registering his '3' on the 504-yard, par 5 17th hole. Williams had three birdies and 22 pars. Barnes had two birdies and 17 pars.
Freshman
Matthew Teegardin (Charleston, SC) (76-73—149, T-47th) is competing as an individual in the event. Teegardin had one eagle, two birdies and 24 pars on his day, registering his '3' on the 501-yard, par 5 eighth hole.
Rhodes (TN) is leading the event with its six-under par 278-284—562, while Colton O'Dell of 21st-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) is the individual leader after 36 holes at seven-under par 70-65—135. H-SC is only nine strokes out of the Top Five, and 13 strokes behind second-place and host Oglethorpe (GA), a squad ranked in a tie for third nationally.
H-SC will continue and complete its competition in the three-day, 54-hole tournament on Tuesday, October 7, at 8:45 a.m. in Georgia.
