Sean Acree (Chesterfield) posted a 36-hole score of even-par 71-73—144 on Monday to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 36-hole team score of 297-303—600 at 
The Tartan Invitational being played at the prestigious Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. Acree is tied for first individually among the 87 collegiate golfers, while the Tigers stand fifth among the 16 teams in the field.
Acree, the reigning ODAC Co-Golfer of the Week, had nine birdies and 19 pars during his opening two rounds on the 7,022-yard, par 72 course and is being followed by sophomore 
Luke Combs (Newport News) (74-75—149, T-14th), junior team captain 
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (76-76—152, T-30th), freshman 
Matthew Teegardin (Charleston, SC) (76-79—155, T-60th) and sophomore 
Oliver Tobin (Charlotte, NC) (85-79—164, T-83rd). Combs had four birdies and 23 pars during his five-over par day. Barnes had one eagle, five birdies and 19 pars during his day, recording a '2' on the 370-yard, par 4 15th hole. Teegardin had five birdies and 15 pars. Tobin had two birdies and 18 pars.
Nationally-ranked #23 Rochester (NY) is leading the event with its 296-293—589, while Acree is tied for first along with Matthew Gover of #6 Huntingdon (AL), who also posted an even-par 71-73—144 after 36 holes. Rochester is followed among the Top Five by #1 Emory (GA) (590), Huntingdon (591), #5 Illinois Wesleyan (597) and the unranked Tigers (600). The Garnet & Grey are currently ahead of three fellow Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) schools, including #8 Washington and Lee (601), #18 Lynchburg (603) and #19 Guilford (NC) (642). Overall, the tournament field includes 11 schools ranked nationally in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches Poll, including eight of the Top 10.
Laurel Valley GC, located just south of Pittsburgh, opened in 1959 and was later renovated by Arnold Palmer. The exclusive club has played host to several major events over the years, including the 1965 PGA Championship, the 1975 Ryder Cup, the 1989 U.S. Senior Open and the 2005 Senior PGA Championship.
H-SC will continue and complete its competition in the two-day, 54-hole tournament on Tuesday, October 14, with tee times beginning at 9 a.m. in Western Pennsylvania.
